New from Arizona

Hello we just got a baby Pineapple conure we named pidgey. We have been around him since he was 4 weeks old at the breeder. He is just now coming into his personality and he is fun and lovable and spoiled rotten. We got him a big cage thinking he would have alot of room but he kept falling and we were afraid he would get hurt so we went out and got him a parakeet type cage with soft beeding in the bottom so if he fell he would be ok. we quickly found out this was not a cage for daytime so it has become his sleep cage and he now has a 3rd cage that is medium size and he is doing great in it.
We laugh about how the bird has 3 homes and we only have one but what are you to do I guess its all trial and error. I dont remember it being this way when we got our Jenday conure or even years ago when I got my cockatoo and quaker parrot.
Anyway we just wanted to say hello and introduce ourselves to the forum.

Hello and welcome!!! He is a baby and getting used to things. Was he able to perch at the Breeders? I’ve noticed my baby lovie is having such a hard time as well. Lol. He falls asleep then wakes upside down and does it all over again. His perch is close to the ground however.

When your baby gets older, he will LOVE the big cage. Then you have 2 more spots to fill. Lol.

Hello at the breeders he was in a little cage with 4 other birds and the perches were all basically on the ground and if he fell it wasnt very far and it was a very soft landing.

He is doing 100% better in the 3rd cage we bought him and of course he loves to burrow in my hair as he is trying to do as I type this response LOL.

We are already on the lookout for a Green Cheek, Sun or Turquoise green cheek conure.

Pineapple (the bird you have) is a breed of GCC. If you already knew that I am sorry but I just wanted to make sure. Be careful that you don't have your new GCC bond to your one you already have or they might decide to ditch you and care only for each other as that is common when getting 2 young birds of the same species. They might also try to breed if you have a girl and a boy. I wasn't sure if you knew these things but if you do then just ignore this information.

Our baby cockatiel came from a situation where she hadn't had much experience with perching before coming home. Once home, she fell a lot, even just from our fingers. We kept her in her big flight cage but just put everything (perches, food, water, and toys) within the first 6 or so inches of the bottom. We would heavily encourage her with praise and treats when she would move over to a different perch or use a ladder. It only took 3 or 4 days for her to feel more confident and not just sit in the same spot for hours and, by a week, we felt safe putting her cage back to a more "normal" configuration with perches throughout the cage and her bowls up top. We've had her for 3 weeks now and she has no issues getting around her cage at all.

Thank you for the information! 1. I dont want any babies lol and I would really like for our guy to bond to us. So based on all of that I think we will hold off on getting another bird right now

Thank you! This makes me feel better. I took our little guy to the vet on Saturday and somehow he has bruised his beak from a fall when we first got him and had him in the big cage. I have been putting him the big cage for a little bit so he can get used to it but right now I think he prefers the medium sized cage.
I will continue working with him.
