Cairo the Ekkie!
Hello!

A little ekkie flew into my life with a bright "hello!" He was lost, and luckily, we managed to find his owner and return him to his family the same day. Ever since then, I've been reading more about them (I remember reading about them and how the ornithologists thought male/female were different species as a child, and they fascinated me even then!)

Right now, our landlady doesn't allow pets, so it'll be at least 6 months before we can adopt. In the meantime, I hope to learn more from you guys and make a more informed decision when the time comes :)

He landed on our balcony and immediately said, "Hello!"

Yes, that's unfortunately granola! He was very hungry when he landed, and we didn't know what he was at first (we called our local wildlife for advice). We gave him water and tried to find what he liked to eat. Luckily, his owner updated us later, saying that he's doing fine :)

He slept and waited for his owner to take him home.

Welcome, thank you for finding this guy’s family! It doesn’t take long to be charmed by a bird....you’ve come to the right place to get tons of information about a variety of species :). Very smart to gather info before adding a family member.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
First, a HUGE thank you for seeking the lost bird's owner. Many folks don't bother and assume it is theirs. I hope you *never* know the heartache of having a bird escape and seeking a safe return.

Welcome, glad you joined. Judging by beak color that appears to be a fairly young male! Eclectus are beauties with engaging personalities. You'll find a universe of birds in this forum.

A shame your landlady does not allow birds. Hopefully your living situation will eventually permit you to know the joys of avian life!

Ekkies do have that way about them, don’t they? My own Ekkie charmed thre heck out of my mom. She’s always been afraid of birds. But hearing him speak and holding him, she was smitten right away and insisted I buy a suitable cage for him to keep at her place because she wanted to birdsit on occasions when I’m traveling.

They really are little princes. You won’t regret getting one, promise!
