I have one spoiled rotten Pineapple Conure named Mango who I love so so so much
This is Luca and Mango! Mango is my newest parrot, he is a Pineapple Conure and he is about 13 weeks old. I’ve only had him for a week and he’s already the spoiled child of the family, my parents love him along with all our friends who come over. Even our dog has gotten used to him and doesn’t try to step on him every time he’s on the floor. I learn something new about him every day and we always have so much fun playing. He can get a little crazy and bang on his cage or flap his wings like crazy to get attention, but he always lets me know when its time to wake up, when its time to eat, and unfortunately, when its time to poop lol. He’s been a great addition to our family and I’m always happy to learn more so if anyone has any tips or suggestions please let us know!

Hello to you and to your conure, I am just a hop skip and a jump over here in Iowa! Glad to have another Midwesterner around! I'd love to see pictures of Mango.

You'll want to keep a VERY close eye on your bird any time you let him walk around on the floor with the dog. As for tips...

-Get the largest cage you can afford, for the times you may be busy at school or outside or not at home. There should be lots of toys and perches in the cage.

Diet is key to keeping them healthy! Many parrots enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables daily as well as pellets and seeds occasionally. Sprouting is also excellent.

Owning a bird is a continued expense -- with toys and food to be purchased monthly as well as getting them to a vet for a wellness check, it can really add up!

That's all I can think of for now :)

Parrots are prey animals. Dogs are predators. Even the most lazy, lay around pooch can one day snap, and in 1/4 of a second your little loved parrot is dead or maimed for life. If you can't restrict the dog when Mango is out of his cage, keep a CLOSE EYE and supervise them.

Welcome to you! Ditto about the risk with the dog! I have helped bury three wonderful fids, each time it was a trusted family pet that killed them!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome Luca and Mango, thanks much for joining!

Mango seems a happy and well adjusted bird, congratulations. As others have said, and I respectfully co-sign, please be careful with the dog. You don't want to have deep regrets should something unexpected happen.

Thank you all so much for being so nice and your tips! We do keep a very close eye on my pup when they’re together, but they’re mostly very well behaved with one another. Mango has become the Alpha in a way lol. whenever my dog gets close to give him a sniff he goes in for a bite of his nose and my dog backs off. But even so, whenever they are alone, Mango is either in his cage or in his playground (my dog is toy so he can’t reach tables or counters).

Welcome, also from Illinois here. I would hesitate to leave Mango on the playstand unsupervised with your pup around as well. If something spokes him, he could take off and end up on the floor, then no one is there to intervene if they decide not to get along. I do hope you reconsider and always put Mango in the cage if no one is around to supervise. I know it can be a pain, but I have to practice the same diligence with my birds, just because I have both small and larger birds.

Green cheeks are wonderful little conures, I have had several. I hope you share pictures of the little guy when you get a chance, we love pictures!
