Rescued G2

Good morning from Victoria BC. Canada. Thank you for the add. We just brought a G2 home the beginnning of August. He was formerly from the now closed World Parrot Refuge in Coombs BC and has been living at Greyhaven Exotic Bird Rescue for 2 yrs. We also have a CAG that we rescued from there a year and a half ago. So far loves head scritches, lots of pin feathers around his head and face to work on for him. Transitioned him over to pellets and fresh chop with seasonal additions. Our CAG is also on pellet and homemade chop diet with fresh seasonal additions.

He has toys from his previous life however currently does not engage with them much at all. He came to us clipped as they said it would be much easier for us to work with him. No step up. He will come out of his cage however we have yet to cuddle or hold him.

Any tips or suggestions to help make this transition easier on both are welcome?

Welcome! And how wonderful! I am the proud pet of a YFA. I was her 4th - 6th home. (She is my second rescue bird). She is also blind in one eye due to a cat attacking her at her previous home. She too, at first wouldn't play with the toy in the cage that came with her. She was a bit aggressive at first as well. (Biting, blood, ect. All my fault). I was patient with her, learned her body language (for the most part), and it was just a time and patience thing. And it was on her time and her terms....for the most part...lol. I built her a play area above her cage and introduced one toy at a time. That was two years ago. She is so loving now. She loves to play and be loved. G2s and CAGs are night and day different, though having both will shower you with a well rounded parrot ambiance.

Cockatoos are generally cuddly when properly socialized while greys can be a bit more standoffish. Hopefully they will learn to co-exist without competition. I have 3 G2s in a room with a CAG. All four are uncaged and able to mingle as desired. They just don't interact but there is no territoriality.
