Suzie Q - White Fronted Amazon (13)
Roxy - Green Wing Macaw (Baby)
Hey folks,

After years of browsing around here and finding all sorts of useful information, I finally registered today. The amount of help here for parrot owners is astounding and I realized not contributing made little sense. I know threads here have helped me and I may have some tidbits or insight others find helpful.

I've been raising and/or owning birds for about 15 years, starting out working at a local bird shop as a kid. I'm no expert but I've handled most species, hand raised many, and love all varieties of parrots.

As a guy with a young family, I've kept my flock small. I raised my white fronted amazon Suzie from a few weeks at that shop about 13 years ago. Other than fostering a moluccan, she was my only avian companion for a long time. However, the owner of the same shop is retiring and recently raised one last group of my favorite birds on earth: green wings. So now my bank account is smaller but a beautiful female macaw named Roxy lives here as well.

She is why I've found myself around here even more than in years past so - why not join and introduce myself?

So hello and thank you all for the community and info here. This is such an important place for bird lovers and an invaluable resource!

Ryan

PS I'm realizing I have no shots of Suzie on my newer phone but I've attached a few pics of the baby this time.

Thanks SailBoat! Appreciate the hospitality and happy to be here.

And shhh, don't tell the snobs I've also got a thing for toos and caiques. Just not enough time, space, or money for all of them!

Thanks all! Looking forward to posting instead of lurking. Honestly not sure why I haven't before.

And Roxy appreciates the compliment, Laurasea! The shop that raised her is top notch and she eats like a piglet. Whatever the reason, her feathers do seem to be brighter than some at this age. I'll have to get some good pictures for photo of the month. Thanks for the welcome!

Too late, as an Amazon Snob, I would guess that I would now be aware of your joy of near, if not all things Parrot. Insider Information Here: Near all specific Parrot Snobs confess to enjoying other Parrots.

Well, I'm so glad you gave up your lurking ways!
Your birds and family sound like a delightful flock.
I'll look forward to getting to know you.

Oh, and I'm not a Patagonian Snob... more of an Apologist. You can whisper to him any time you like... tell him that whatever he's doing at the moment, he should stop it. As you get to know him, you'll see what I mean.

Welcome!

Really appreciate the warm welcome guys. Thanks for that and making this site so helpful.

ChristaNL, Rox says thanks! M&D Bird Farm (or mdbirdworld.com) raises some beautiful babies and will be around, as a new owner is soon taking over. But the original owner is amazing and taught me most of what I know about birds. I've wanted a greenwing for over a decade and realized it was now or never if I wanted one she raised.

Terry57, always good to see West Virginians! We're in the process of moving to Parkersburg after years of living on the east coast. So glad to be back home. Still looking for good bird shops in the area though. And pics of Suzie are on the way. She's an ornery little bird. Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks GaleriaGila! Got it. And I'll be interested to read about Patagonians. They're among the few I've never handled much. Seem like really interesting parrots.

Tami2, thanks so much. Suzie has her jealous moments but generally likes having a second bird around, I think. If Roxy gets too much attention for her liking, Suz will throw a little fit of squawks and random words to make sure she isn't left out. She settles as soon as we talk to her. The moluccan we fostered was good company for her but louder. She's more vocal now with the quieter macaw, which has been fun to see.

Scott, thank you and thank God we're away from the carnage. Moving between Delaware beaches and West Virginia right now so should only get some residual rain from the hurricane. Best wishes back to you and anyone dealing with that disaster.

Wow, small world - We're gradually moving back to WV after a couple decades in Delaware. Seems a lot of mountaineers end up in the DE/Philly area, whether it's for better work or more to do.

Romeo and Mochi, such great names. I'm sure they're amazing and keep you moving!

Dang. Now I'm craving pepperoni rolls lol
