Blue fronted amazon, lutin cockatiel, agapornis fischer...
Hello,
So I finally got my baby yesterday. Heā€™s a blue fronted amazon and I decided to call him Mambo.
Heā€™s 4 months old and really beautiful!

I didnā€™t touch him a lot yesterday because I know he has to get used to the cage and everything. But I realised (yesterday and today) that heā€™s quite aggressive and he always ā€œmoan/ growlā€ (I donā€™t know how to say it) when youā€™re near him, and if you try to touch him he just bites you.

He have been hand raised so I donā€™t really understand why he is like that... any suggestions about how to fix this or if itā€™s normal?
Thank you
Jose.

Nawww... what a beautiful baby! Still has that adorable baby look too:D

Yes, amazons can/do 'growl' to communicate! And yes, it is pretty amusing to hear a bird make this growling noise. Amazons also (regardless how they were raised) tend not to be the 'cuddliest' of birds by nature, so it's not shocking this one is making you earn his trust and friendship. Just give your precious new baby time to get to know you and learn to trust you. Keep in mind how scary this whole situation must be for him- only 12(ish) weeks on this planet and POOF! Everyone/everything he ever knew is gone and he is in a totally new home with totally new and unknown human/s and is so young he doesn't yet know the ways of his world. He doesn't know if you want to eat him or be his best buddy yet. Slow down and take things at the little guys pace. There's no rush, you have the next 60 years to make friends with him:)

Most of us swear by our avian vets in the event of health concerns. I don't know where you are, but here are some links. I only have USA info...

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.

What's the diet? That's critical for health. Too many are kept on seeds or other poor-nutrition things. They need veggies, legumes, grains... pellets are a good staple. Here's what I use.
Harrison's Bird Foods
I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff, like fruits and vegetables! My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products.

Since you're new parront, I'll just drop a note about avoiding teflon pans, which are lethal to birds.

I'm glad you're here. Lots to learn and share and enjoy!

I just got to know that he has been hand raised (hand fed) but they didnā€™t take him out if his cage since I ā€œreservedā€ him so... thatā€™s why heā€™s so aggressive... heā€™s been so much better today so I think heā€™s improving really fast.. Iā€™ll keep you informed about everything that happens [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]
