New member and new conure.

I got a Green Cheek Conure about a month ago. We named her Trixie. She is still biting me almost got step up, but she still tries to bite me. And she acts like she wants to snuggle me like the one on the picture. But then she makes a angry/scared sound and bites.

I had a bird years ago, a Sun Conure. So not too new with parrots.

Trying to switch her off of a seed mixture diet. Not easy.

Hi and welcome. Once your GcC gets you trained lol there will be less bites. They can bite because they want to save you from s threat, or because they are jelleous of s person or thing, because they ate scared, because they ate over stimulated, because they ate tired, or need a nap or break, or need to eat or drink. Every one has molting birds right now that makes them cranky to. Birds tend to bite because their other communication is ignored. Or you are petting them in a way they don't like. My best advice is to work really hard to identify the cause or causes and start eliminating them one by one. Make sure they have a set bed time and wake up time, the closer you mimic the sun rise sun set time the better for most part. Most parrots are better with training and snuggling in the morning and afternoon, try and see if you can find a time that you get the most positive response. Doing group meals makes them Happy theyike to be part of the flock. We all have breakfast together them on a hanging swing or sitting on a casserole dish I put their morning veggies in, then they sneak some eggs from me. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new fid!! Lots of threads an ideas on biting. New birds do better with only head scratches, usually. A lot of birds don't like nail polish or the color red, at least it's true for mine!!! Even when you have experience like you have, it doesn't hurt to go back and familiarize yourself with stuff you know or might have forgotten or new ideas that are out there. I have had GCC for 17 years and I learn or relearn all the time. My gal Ta-dah is pretty darn snuggling good girl but bites me like crazy ig I use the phone around her! And no nail polish or she bites the same with bright red clothes or hot pink or bright orange...so those things are gone now lol. I hope you can get past this and not be frustrated! You are among friends here and we all get bit from time to time! Doesn't mean you can't get to the point we're it's very rare tho!!

GCCs have quite the memory and do things for "who knows" why. (I still want to meet WHO. S/he is brilliant!) My sweet-to-everyone-else GCC bit my friend Judy.

Nip (pun intended) it in the bud! I learned about "bite pressure training" here but am still not sure what it entails. My current GCC is going on 20 months and bites me. Yesterday, I told him, "No" and he stopped. A little later, the same thing with the same results. I've decided to say that when he does.

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.

What's the diet? That's critical for health. Too many are kept on seeds or other poor-nutrition things. They need veggies, legumes, grains... pellets are a good staple. Here's what I use.
Harrison's Bird Foods
I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff, like fruits and vegetables! My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products.

Since you're new parront, I'll just drop a note about avoiding teflon pans, which are lethal to birds if even slightly overheated.
