Transplant to WV from Fla
Parrots
Finschs Conure
Hello! My first post. I have had to move back to WV from Fla with my Finschs Conure named Psycho. He’s close to 25 yrs old. He’s my baby. Am anxious to meet other bird owners out there! He’s adjusted to the area better than I have.

Will be getting pics out soon. Still trying to figure how to use the site! New to posting. My main concern is new furnace I just had installed. Bryant. It is running now but putting off a hot metal smell. I’m worried about Psycho. I have windows open, he’s by the open patio door. Service tech coming today but not sure he’d know if this smell is toxic to birds. Any suggestions? I’m just cautious. My baby is healthy. Sure don’t want to hurt him.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to you and Psycho!

A good many odors are harmful or worse to birds. Some lethal fumes have *no* perceptible odor, such Teflon or similar at high temperatures. Please use extreme caution until the furnace is checked. Don't know if lethal coatings are used in furnaces; better safe than sorry.

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
Welcome! So glad he is your baby and that you are thinking about his best interests!!!

I totally understand your concern about the furnace. Could you call the company and get a list of all inner contents that are exposed to heat..then maybe consult an avian vet? Do you have to run it this early...? I had to turn mine on the other day and even that smell (you know when it hasn't been run in awhile) made me feel anxious enough to open windows.

If you have a SAFE person who could watch your bird for a few days, you could run the heater and leave the windows open to hopefully get rid of the smell...I know that is easier said than done though...
