Hi all,
I will be purchasing a 3 month old baby female Ecluctus from Solely Solomon Aviaries. I would love to hear good and bad experiences anyone has had with an Eclectus. For an example I have heard that female Eclectus can be like pit bulls, Is that true? Here is a pic of our soon to be family member. Her name will be Kiki. IMG_0560.jpg let me know if you were able to see her pic. Again all advise will be greatly appreciated. I have a 7 year old daughter that is going to be my partner is raising Kiki.

I could see the pic. She is so cute. I personally have never heard the females or even males to be mean or stubborn but it really depends on kiki's personality. I hope you and Kiki will build a loving bond. Have you seen her in person?

No not in person. I have been dealing with a reputable breeder of Eclectus's only. Here name is Lilly. She has gain my trust and business because of her reputation and caring nature. Kiki will actually be shipped to me becuase they are located in Texas and I am in Fort Lauderdale. Do you have any regrets with Your Ecluctis?

Awesome to have another Eclectus person on the forum.. I have a 5 month old male named Tobi.. I have heard the females can be abit cage aggressive because in the wild it is the female that protects the food supply.
Have you decided what diet you are going to feed her? It is extremely important with our Eckkies that the food is 100% nutritious for them

The Eclectus Parrot - Graham Taylor (Australia)

Here is a link that explains their needs and why.

I also have an African Grey and Cockatiel

Thus far Tobi is by far so much more sweet in personality then my other parrots.

It's so funny to watch him on the floor. He doesn't walk he always runs to where he is going!

Hello & welcome to the wonderful world of eclectus. I have to admit that yes a lot of what you hear regarding the aggressive behavior of eclectus hens is absolutely true & do i have the scares to prove it. But i have over the years learnt to read their body language to avoid being bitten at all costs. I really think a lot depends on how much trust you build between yourself & your bird.

I feed my eclectus very much the same as Graham Taylor & in all the years of being an eclectus owner i have never had 1 bird with a health problem. Balanced diet is the key. I sometimes think that our eccies are fed to much especially the matured hens & many are kept in top breeding condition & therefore sometimes become very hormonal & aggressive.

Word of warning when she arrives just take things very slow. She will be frightened with her new environment so will need time to settle in.
