Hi, I'm new to forum.
Glad i found you by doing a seARCH.
I wanted a group to join that is not on facebook.

so, i'm 64, have had 2 birds, cocketeil and timneh grey.

lot has gone on in the years I've had the birds..

Now I need to start up again so I can have a companion to add to my flock of one mini poodle.

Welcome!! I don't do Facebook either. Glad you found us! You have Parrots now, or are thinking of jumping back in? There are a lot of rescues out there in need of good homes, or even idiots on Craigslist getting rid of Parrots that usually have been neglecting...I rescued a quaker abd seeing her recover and show such sneaky humor and love just makes me want to rescue more. Yeah she went through a screaming and biting faze, but she is past that now. Anyway I rambling, welcome!!

WELCOME, you found the right place!!!!!

The only thing that made me go um....

A mini poodle is technically a hunting dog, even though it's like... small I know. But they were bred for hunting.

One thing about us is we will/can be BRUTALLY honest when it comes to parrot welfare. So is the dog older and "meh I don't care to chase things anymore", or was it ok with your previous birds?

I hope it all works out ok, but it is something to think about.

Also you can't go wrong with a conure but I'm biased. :gcc:

Hi,

I just got the poodle in June from a rescue. I have not seen him chase as I have him on a leash when we go out..

He will look at the squirrels but bound in chasing them

I'd wonder if there was a way to test his aggressiveness or if you make sure they are completely separated or....if the dog will accept the bird as a member of his "pack" as opposed to "flock". Even a play bite can be fatal. I hate being the bad guy but I just want to bring it up firsthand. I really hope it goes well and you get the perfect owner for you. (We often and correctly call our parrots our owners because....well it's self evident.)

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to you and your flock, thanks for joining! You'll find the forum experience far richer than a FB page. I do both for other interests, and lament how many forums are dying in favor of FB. We hope to be a long-lived exception!!

FB is not my cup of tea.

I often wondered how those ads would come up on my page, seemed geared to me

I don't like that you can't follow threads.. It just goes on and on and on.

Welcome!

May I ask what happened to your past birds? It just makes me nervous when people say they have had another bird with a very long long life-expectancy (Timneh), as certain diseases can stick around a home for a long time and re-infect future birds.

I for some reason, can’t remember. It was not because of disease, I know that much.

I had each bird at different addresses
