We had a Blue Fronted Amazon female until Dec. 21.2010 - She was our pride and joy, and her death hurt us deeply. We will NEVER forget the joy she brought to our lives.
Hello Everyone,

My name is Caroline and my husband and I are animal lovers. We have 3 dogs and until yesterday afternoon a Blue Fronted Amazon.:green:Named, Sir Gallahad, aka Gully.

During a daily walk, our bird Gully, stretched his wings and flew a small circle around my husband, as she often did. However, when she landed just 2 feet away from him two cats came out of nowhere and jumped her. They drug her under a neighbor's trailer and broke her neck. We have not slept a wink and are absolutely devastated. She had been an active part of our family life for over 11 years. We rarely left home without her.

My husband was her main handler, and the two were inseparable. He had become "the bird man" in our community, as he always had her on his shoulder where ever he went.

In all the years of our marriage I have NEVER seen him so upset. Gully was given to us, after she was rescued from an abusive home. She was absolutely in love with my husband, and would use a mating call when he was not around, looking for him.

It is my wish to find him (us) a new bird. However, since I became disabled in 2004 money has been very tight. So my heartfelt plea goes out for someone to bring the joy of a parrot back in to my husband, and my, life.

OMG that is so sad. We lost a bird that way last year when our really old conure Sam got taken by a hawk when she was out with my dad. He was really sick about it too even though it was really mom's bird that she had had forever. I saw that someone in texas has a Macaw that needs a good home. Or you can go to a shelter. I know my mom told Papa not to get another bird for her cause she wasn't in America when it happened but he did anyway and she was glad in the end cause she loves our new Sam and Gem.

I'm so SO sorry this has happened to you.

I can't imagine how devestated you all must be.

I hope that your family will find another companion in the fullness of time.

OMG I am tearful just reading about this devistating event in your life. Please give my heart felt sorry to your husband. I see you live in the south off USA. There are lots of options for another bird rescue. First of all please be sure you husband has completed the grief process before the new bird is obtained. He will be needing to focus on the new bird 100%. We have other members here who have lost their loved bird from a trauma and they can speak to you also. Fla. has many bird adodption places. Also check out petfinder.com they are more reliable than craigs list. Be aware there are many scammers out there wanting your money in the exoctic bird trade. Best to deal with someone you can be sure will not take the money and run.

I am so sorry to hear about your terrible loss. There are many here, including myself, who have also dealt with this kind of loss, so we definitely sympathize with you. Gully was obviously a very special friend.

I would really recommend you wait to get another. When I lost my buddy, I would swing wildly back and forth every day between "he can never be replaced" and "I need another parrot NOW". Every single day...

I can almost promise you're not really ready for another one right away. It will probably take a couple of months at least, and maybe longer.

Again, my sympathies. I know it really hurts. :(

Sorry to hear what happened to your bird, you must both be so devastated. Having a bird for 11 years, he was definitely part of your family.
I too lost a bird, my entire world collapsed. I wanted to get another bird, but I knew I had many issues to first deal with.

After 3 years, I knew I was mentally ready to to become a guardian again.
I have had Mishka an African Grey for 3 years now. Today I am so grateful I waited, knowing that I could give Mishka my 110% dedication.

Take care

I think that it must be different for each person. I think only you will know when your family is ready. I hope you are able to remember the good things and smile a bit even though the end was so sad.
