Hi all.
Long-time bird person here. :gcc:
Say Hi to Pico, my Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure.

Pico was hand-fed by a local breeder.
I got him in 2015 a week after being weaned.
I spent an hour with him and his two siblings, but Pico and I connected right away.
Primary feathers of both wings are kept trimmed, except for the two outer primaries.

Not knowing Pico's gender, I just tossed a coin.
If we get an egg someday he'll become a she. :p
For a companion parrot gender doesn't matter to me.

I LOVE this bird. :35:

He's friendly with everyone, and I do mean everyone!
Right when I got him I started taking him out everywhere, except for work.
He loves to sit on anyone's shoulder ... of course after a short talk to decide whether the person is okay for this and telling them what to expect.
I don't offer him to women wearing thin necklaces or anyone with skin blemishes that Pico will find irresistible.

Pico will kiss, nibble, preen hair, and charm the pants off anyone.
People are so surprised and happy to interact with a bird, usually it's thier first time.
Of course then I tell them to watch the Youtube video, "11 Reasons NOT to get a parrot".
So many people get a parrot before learning what's involved. :58:

In three years Pico's been on literally hundreds of shoulders.
Not one bad experience, knock on wood.

I'm glad, and grateful, to join this community.

I second that! But as most of mine are rescues... it’s been tricky enough to get them friendly with me!

Anyway! Welcome to you and Pico! He looks adorable!

Thanks all for the welcomes.

Welcome Ambassador of Fids! Pico is adorable!

Laurasea, thanks for the new word, Fids. (feathered kids)
That really sums up what a companion parrot is.
I had to look it up, but learned another new term, "parronts". :D

SNIP:
"Fun Fact: While pet birds are sometimes referred to as “fids,” some bird owners refer to themselves as “parronts.”
