Hi there. I just joined today. I'm not a breeder, but I do take the castoffs of others who cannot or do not know how to care for the critters they've purchased. It's how I ended up with the domestic zoo with which I currently reside. My most recent acquisition is Ares, a blue and gold macaw. They've been through several abusive homes before coming to me, so he comes with his own set of challenges, but he really is a sweetie. It's a shame that he isn't a fan of men. They've always been the ones who abused him, so he gets extremely stressed out whenever my husband enters the aviary to assist me, so he's had to keep his distance.

Hello and a warm welcome to you, Ares and the Zoobies!

You are not alone! A lot of us are glorified zookeepers, it’s funny how we learn to view the experience as just another day at the office. I’m listening to my CAG bang SS measuring cups against his cage while calling the dogs by their names and asking his neighbor if he’s okay then telling him to stop it. His YNA neighbor is having a pretend coughing fit periodically interrupted by conversation, Good Morning Bingo, what are you doing?, step up, birdie bread....in a distant room two quakers are scolding the wild birds they can see through the windows while the other quaker is meowing like a cat. This is all too normal. There’s no place like home.

Grinnn, yours sounds like a great place to be.

Ares will come around I think.
(Sunny was a monstly-males macaw and she decided I am not so bad after all, It took her about 10 months to really come around. She had not been actively mistreated, but I think neglect is almost as bad for them.)

Aw, they are all adorable! All of my birds are also re-homes....they are the best birdies

. Stanley was my last addition, given away because he was an aggressive biter. Now he is my snuggle-bug (took months, but we got there).
