My name is Kheri, and my babies are Franky :orange: and Cyrus:orange:. They were re-homed from a fellow bird lover. I have had them for about three years. They are loud and messy and like to throw food at me and I love them. They are so relaxing to watch, especially when they are being silly.

But this morning was scary for me. See, when we get up and get the family's day started, I uncover them and tell them good morning while have my coffee. Well, this morning, Franky ( she is my lady bird), something scared her or something!! She started flying all over her cage. Scared she was going to hurt herself I tried to calm her down and let her out. She flew to the table, hit some tumblers, and flew to a near wall. I picked her up and held on to her for five minutes. I petted her and tried to get her breathing to slow down. Until she got spooked again by our dog, who saw her in my hands. She flew off again and land on the floor. With the dog restrained by my husband and kids, I picked her up again and put her back in her cage. She stayed in a corner just hanging on to the sides.

It really bothered me when her head just started to fall back and she just stayed like that till I adjusted her wings. They had been open and poking through the cage.

Unfortunately, I had to leave to take my kids to school. When I got back say thirty minutes later, she was eating but had not come out of the cage. I had to leave again for about an hour and when I returned she was back to her normal self.

I was so very worried about her, I called the closest aviary vet I could find, 1.5 hours away, and I am still waiting for them to call me back. This was at 8:15 this morning. Now my "Birbies" are sitting together on the perch grooming each other and looking down on me.

I have had birds most of my life and but I have never had one act like this.
I am not a big "post" kind of person so I might not post much. But if anyone hashed this happen to one of their babies please post. I will read and respond as soon as I can.

Thank you

Welcome!!

I'm a bit confused.. did you leave them with cage open while you took the kids to school?

How is she doing now? Are her wings ok? Is she perching and moving around all right?

Welcome Kheri. Sounds like you calmed your birds down after they got spooked. A quiet environment for a little while afterward is best for that. If you are worried your bird was injured by a collision with the wall, then checking with your avian vet is best. Let us know how it turns out!

Welcome, Kheri, Franky & Cyrus! Sounds like Franky’s sudden adventure stunned her and maybe physically hurt her, it sounds like she recovered. I think I’d still keep the appointment, head injuries are extremely dangerous. How did everything turn out, is Franky feeling better?

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to you, Franky, and Cyrus!

Has this happened before, can you identify the initial trigger for Franky's upset? This seems much like a "night fright" except the conditions were different. Glad to know she has recovered and seems back to normal!
