looking forward to bringing home a baby rose breasted galah this summer

while i've been waiting for piper to be hatched and raised to the fledgling and weanling stage, i've been gathering all of the equipment and toys that a bird could possibly need and want.

No such thing as being too prepared!! We need pictures when she's hatched!!

I have serious Galah-envy! We lost our thirty-five-year-old boy just this year and even though Miss Rosetta Stone has come into our lives, she'll never fill the aching empty place that Dominic left behind.

You're in for a treat with a galah! They're extremely loving and affectionate and funny and clever and all the very best things you could possibly want in a bird. Oh, and they're pretty as well! Like all cockatoos, galahs are very teachable and will pick up training quite quickly. If you give yours plenty of chewing and climbing and swinging and hanging and moving opportunties, you'll have a happy, well-adjusted bird that will fill your house with laughter (both yours and his/hers).

Galahs are quite prone to fatty tumours from eating too much fatty seed, so I would advise that you keep a strict eye on any seed mixes you might buy. Sunflower and safflower seeds are the worst, but any seed in excess can lead to fatty liver disease and lipomas. Lipomas can, as we sadly found out, turn malignant, so it's quite a serious matter and worth giving serious thought.

Do post heaps of pics when your Piper arrives, won't you? Do you know his/her gender yet? (Might be a little Pipette?) Doesn't matter: all galahs are gorgeous!
