So I’m new to the area, I’m actually south of Memphis! Im 29 years old, I love animals of all kinds. I have 2 dogs, a few tarantulas and as of now I don’t have any birds but obviously I’m interested. I had an African grey when I was 16-21, unfortunately I didn’t really plan to have such an unstable life at that time and I had to give him to a bird sanctuary as I just wasn’t able to keep him. Anyways, I just moved closer to family, I’m establishing myself at a job that has many career opportunities, I’m also a part time musician (fiddle/guitar), writer and a I cultivate gourmet and medicinal mushrooms as a hobby, I’m also an avid traditional archer (long bow). I try to make these welcome posts interesting. Lol I also have a girlfriend, anyways, were looking for a bird companion or possibly two! One for each of us and so they can keep each other company while we’re at work. I’m looking for a bird that suits me and I’m wondering if I should look into certain species or just try to find a particular bird. I’m looking into rescue birds or baby birds from young breeders, if I chose a rescue I would be overwhelmed if said bird had serious behavioral problems because of the extra time I would have to invest in reestablishing human trust instead of going straight to bonding. If anyone knows of breeders or sanctuaries near me please don’t be shy! Also, I’ll add to that so that everyone reading knows what I’m looking for...

Medium sized, 30 year life expectancy, reserved but occasionally playful, bonds well to one but accepts other(doesn’t get too jealous), don’t care if it can talk although would be neat, nothing too nippy, not overly loud (schreechy), not insanely messy.

Thanks for reading!

Medium sized and all what you said... the most similar thing I would say is a caique or Senegal or meyers (even if they are small for me). Medium size I would say an amazon or a rose breasted cockatoo.
In the worst case as your goal is to rescue you can always look if you find any bird of like 30-35 years old.

And I would suggest you, to go to a sanctuary; and you will see by yourself. You will fall in love with the one you expect the least, I’m sure!

Jose :)

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums! If there are local avian rescues, might have the opportunity to observe and handle a wide variety of species. Google is perhaps the best method to search.
