Hi Everyone. Never really thought about caring for a parrot-always been a fish man until I came to live in Paraguay with my Paraguayan wife.
Then on a visit to wifes relation we were asked if we would take an Amazona parrot that had been dumped on them-they had loads of cats. We warmed to the idea on meeting the little chap and took him there and then.
Life changed immediately in our house-chosing a cage and then building a garden aviary. Within two weeks we are very close with the bird. He started coping our words, asking for caresses and grooming my beard. We loved it. Then we lost him through our own fault. We hadnt realised that his wings had grown sufficiently to fly. He just saw a gap and went. Never to be seen again. We were heart broken.
We very soon decided to have another one and to be much more careful. One day, again my wife visiting relations she met a local trader in birds-I believe he may have been illegal, but anyway she came home with TWO birds! I was actually delighted but at the same time nervous having two. My nerves are proving well founded because it is proving difficult to achieve the same closeness with these two as we previously had. That is a problem which I intend to post or look for help in the forum.
