I'm looking forward to getting to know you folks here, and learn from you as well. It'll be nice to talk about my bird with someone else who "gets" it - that special bond we have with our birds.

As a child, I grew up with a budgie in the family. I've also owned a cockatiel, but that was quite a few years ago too. Earlier this year I became the parront of a black capped conure and am constantly entertained by this clever creature's personality. I've named him Jesse and refer to it as a male, but haven't had him DNA sexed and labelling him as male is just based on a whimsy. I'd be fine if he turned out to be a she. In fact, the Avian vet I took him to for a check-up, is inclined to think my bird is a she, but couldn't be certain without the test. She did warn me to watch for signs of Jesse ever being egg-bound since we're not sure of his sex. Being a parront sure has it's surprises, doesn't it?!

Jesse and I are slowly getting to know each other and establish a trusting, loving relationship. It really makes my heart go pittypat, when Jesse is sitting on my shoulder and makes his happy noise, it's more like a cat purr than a bird's chirp.

Oh, my user name comes from my family joking around about how Jesse liked to take a juicy nip out of you once in a while, when you were least expecting it. But that's happening less and less often nowadays.

Welcome to you and Jesse. He sounds adorable and the name Jesse works fine if he turns out to be a she later:). Please post photos....check out the technical section on 'how to'...ask any questions you need. Great to have you on board.

Welcome JuicyNip and Jesse! I definitely get what you mean. Often times when I talk about my bird to friends and family, they go, "Oh but it's just a bird? It's not like a dog or a cat." To have other people who get it makes me think I'm not so crazy for being so crazy for birds(although Luna more so) lol.
