Hello there.

I'm Connor/Saurian! As the name suggests... I like dinosaurs. I'm fifteen, live in the UK, and I used to have a budgie. He passed away at 9 years old when my dad took him out of his cage for cleaning. Cardiac arrest, my dad didn't mean it, the usual cage cleaner wasn't around. Mister was just a very shy bird who I, sadly, was probably too young to own. (I was 4 when we got him.) I think of him every day, and I do miss him.

Sorry about that! Anyway, at the moment I'm looking for an African Grey to join my family as I think I'm ready to be held captive for the next fifty years. If you have any for sale, please, let me know.

In my spare time, I work on software, games and PC building. I write stories and music as well. I look forward to making friends here!

I wish that I and we had nicer advice for you, you seem like a good kid. But, and I think almost all members here, will advise you to hold off on owning a Grey or any other parrot until you are established after you complete your education and have started on your career. We have so many members who are students who have to rehome ther parrots after they get them and the reality of school and outside activities leaves little time for the required input that parrots require. A parrot that does not get at least 4 hours of quality outside cage time is not going to be a happy one. That time is essential to having a bonded relationship with your bird, and they will develop all sorts of negative behaviour if it is not there.

I suggest that you spend time working at a rescue center for parrots, or other plave where you can get a better idea of what is involved with the proper care of parrots, especially the large ones, like African Greys, so that if you decide to own one you go in with both eyes wide open.

Any one who aspires to owning a parrot is a special person, and our forum applauds that, but we are all about the parrots and their well being, which is why I give this advice.

Thank you very much for this brilliant advice. I understand where you're coming from. I know of some rescue places, so I will definitely give them a call so I can spend some time with our feathered friends.

Welcome to you! I would echo the advice that Wrench provided. You sound like you have your eyes open about the long-term nature of a relationship with a parrot, which is great. I look forward to hearing about your adventures in determining when is a good time in your life to add a companion

An important consideration is your age vs servitude towards a parrot over 50+ years. You are very bright and mature but will experience significant personal growth the next few years. Right. We would love to follow your exploration of parrots and their ins and outs,and would be estatic to know that when you finish grad school, find that perfect job and home that you are getting the parrot that choose you ! Man that would be great for you ( and gratifying to the board to know we were able to help you along to really understand and know parrots well)
