We recently rescued a baby rainbow lorikeet. He had heatstroke and we brought him back to our home and is now our pet. He has been doing fine for the past week but recently he has been eating Wombaroo and drinking regular tap water and after he eats he gags and then vomits and then continues to eat. He usually gets fed twice a day. He has also been sneezing a lot. We are not sure what to do, help?

Hello there and welcome to Parrot Forums!

Which part of Australia do you live in? I strongly suggest you try to get him seen to by a certified bird vet. Your lorikeet may have been injured in a fall from the nest, and sometimes parent birds will eject babies from the nest if they determine that the baby is somehow imperfect or he’s the last nestling and the parent birds are impatient for it to leave. You also need to be very careful with wet food as it will spoil after only a couple of hours particularly in hot weather. Wet food can be offered all day but you will need to have several food dishes that you can wash in hot soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly and rotate them. My Lilly has access to dry nectar powder all day and only gets wet mix for a few hours in the afternoon.

In any event your best bet is to get him checked out by a specialist bird vet who is in the best position to give you professional advice on any potential medical issues, plus advise you on how to keep him healthy and happy in future.
