I got the most amazing bird today

I went into Petco for budgie food and walked past the birds for sale...there was the most amazing sun conure that ran right up to the glass and begged to be scratched...I asked to hold her and well, now she's sitting on my shoulder eating a snack.
I was planning on getting a green cheek and had bought a 30"x 30" cage on black Friday for a really good price, it was all set up and I was just waiting to find the right bird.

I also have 2 budgies that I love...but they only have eyes for each other.

She sounds like a dear!
One thing about sun conures though, they are often thought to be the noisiest out of the conure family!

I hope you and your new friend get along well. From the sound of it you two already are!
That’ll be a huge step up from the budgies, be prepared for lots of snuggles and messes! Conures are messy eaters.

Your story is similar to mine! InMarch I had 2 little budgies when I met a beautiful sun conure at my local Petco and fell in love.

Conratulations on beginning your life journey with your wonderful new Friend! (I don’t say “pet” because mine doesn’t think she is. In fact, she thinks I’m HER pet, and I’m guessing yours will probably feel the same.

I have had similar experiences twice in recent memory...a cockatiel who was half plucked, alone, and clearly not in a good place mentally, and a GCC who was apparently bored to death in his big box store cage...if I was a normal human with functioning heart I would have them both on the truck, but I just couldn't bring myself to risk Belle and Beau Dandy either physically or with a possible disease. Some day I'd love a hand raised conure or similarly sized bird, harness trained and or generally free to roam onboard, but until I have a rock solid plan for an avian vet and a few other day to day things hashed out I can't get any more birds, I am glad somebody got that cute fella out of that store!

Sounds a lot like how I bought my first bird! I had wanted one for awhile and had decided to check out a local bird store for cages, toys etc. I walked out with a small baby cockatiel 😯😂Anyways, I hope you and your sun conure have lots of fun together!
