Soon to be Grey mom - again

It’s been so long since I was a bird mom due to life circumstances and then I became a caretaker for my own mama during a long terminal illness ... I didn’t think it would be fair to a bird or to her to split my energy so I waited.

Years and years ago when I had the love of my life, Tiki ( Congo African Grey) birds were everywhere in Georgia and here in Atlanta. You could find grays and macaws anywhere at anytime. So much has changed.

I’ve searched off and on for quite some time and I finally found a longtime breeder here in Atlanta that has exactly one grey available soon ...one. A beautiful little Timneh that should be able to come home in two months. I go to meet this sweetheart this Saturday for the first time.

From what I’ve read, there are few significant differences between a TAG and a CAG, so I’m hoping that reading general African Grey information will be all I need to brush up on whatever I may have forgotten!

I’m nervous and excited so for now, these little pictures are all I have to get me through until Saturday, when I can take a dozen more.

If you plan on harness training you might ask if the breeder can start getting him used to it???? Or be prepared to start right away as babies are the easiest to teach... I've given up on my adults as I just make them bite be ( my faiker I'm sure )

Welcome and congratulations!! TAGs and CAGs are rather similar beyond appearances. Please make sure yours is fully weaned before accepting.

He’ll be fully weaned although I’ve hand raised several.

As for getting him used to things, I’ll be bringing things like the clicker and pointer for target training so he won’t be afraid of either when he gets home. I don’t expect to USE them until later but he’ll be desensitized to both early on.


Luckily, he’s being raised around a whole pack of dogs so mine shouldn’t phase him!

I get to go visit again right after Christmas and I can’t wait!
