Hey Everyone i am new here and hoping i can learn from you all as I today came home with a rescue budgie i normally rescue wild birds. This tiny albino budgie was in a garden centre that i happened to be in and i noticed her she was tiny compared with the other budgies. Her flight feathers on her wings were gone and she climbed rather then flew. I asked about her and they said that she was just a runt. I came home and read up on reasons that she could be missing them and found french moult. Over the next 2 weeks i visited her a few times and asked about her every time. Today when i went in i was getting some things today I half jokingly asked would he do me a deal on the budgie and he said you can take it. I am calling her a girl but i dont know. I dont know if she has french moult or if she is a runt or if she was being bullied. I was told she was there 8 months. I will be helping her along as much as i can. Any tips would be great.

Welcome to the Forums and thank you for taking this little one on. I’ve always been a bit of a sucker for the runt of the litter (nestlings) too :)

Which part of the world do you live in? French moult is quite an old-fashioned term which can cover several viral diseases. It’s not possible to diagnose which one your bird has without taking her to, preferably, a certified avian vet and having blood tests done to establish exactly what you’re dealing with and how best to treat it. Particularly if, as you say, you may have other rescue birds in your home. It may turn out she doesn’t have a virus at all and she’s just a bit runty. The other budgies may have picked on her either for being diseased or just because of her runtiness. This is similar to what would happen in the wild as the flock would want to rid themselves of a bird they perceive as weak otherwise it may attract predators.

So I would encourage you to have her checked out by a professional who is in the best position to advise you how to proceed from here. If you tell us where you are we can try to help you find a specialist bird vet, a normal cat and dog vet who “also sees birds” probably won’t have access to the full range of diagnostic tools or treatment options.

Again welcome aboard, and do keep us updated with your progress!

Hi Thank you, I am in Ireland.
There will be no other birds here with her but will have her checked over to find out. She will be coming to see my vet with me so I will keep you updated.
I could not stop thinking about her from the minute i seen her and just wanted to help her. The other birds seemed to be at her a bit so hopefully thats what it is. I start reiki healing with her and i can see a difference in her.
I am not sure how to upload photos of her here. But whenn i figure it out i will.

B&G Macaw, Galah, 5 cockatiels, 50 billion and a half budgies. We breed and do rescue. Too many to list each individual's name and age etc, but they are each individuals and loved dearly.
Welcome welcome, and thank you for helping the little one!!!! Does she have tail feathers? Is there thick fluffy down feathers showing? PBFD is, unfortunately, also possible. With only one bird and her being a budgie, this is not the end of the world. Yes it is highly contageous and often fatal, but in my understanding it often does not kill budgies and she could still live a long rich full life.

Nothing wrong with posting the link. I translated them into direct images by right-clicking each pic, left-clicked the "properties," copied the address, and inserted into forum picture window. That is the yellow icon bottom row slightly right-of-center just above the text box. (where you type before posting)

The most direct method: Steps 3 and 4 allow posting the BB Code directly into text box without the steps above.

1) Upload your pics to Imgur
2) Click on the uploaded photo that you want to post to the forum
3) Look at the URL address options to the right and copy the one under BB Code (message boards and forums)
4) Paste the code directly into your reply window and post away!
