my bird has a small cut on his foot was bitten by the other parakeet. There is no bleeding but its a little red with a little skin. I have read that some people used Neosporin but some say it's ok for parakeets and some say it's bad for them. I'm not sure what to do, any suggestions or help. Thanks so much.:blue2:

You can add a couple of drops of betadine to water and esitger wet a paper towel and hold on it, or use a spray bottle to lightly mist it. Betadine does stain so be careful. You just want the water to very lightly tingesd with the betadine. It doesn't take much. Betadine is a cleaning and antimicrobial.
Myself would not use ointment, as it sticky holds dirt on the wound

I am 71, married and fairly private. I have PM privileges but prefer the phone. Printed messages, are so limited. jh
Look at the ingredients of neosporin. The cut doesn't go to the underside does it? If not just keep it clean and watch for any infection or favoring. jh PS: Just my opinion. jh

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome, hope your parakeet has begin to heal. Wound looks relatively minor, as others have said keep the area clean and watch for difficulty with use. Redness and/or swelling may signify infection that could spread systemically. Please keep us informed as needed!

Ok thank you so much. I looked up Betadine and it showed as Povidone-Iodine at Target and says it's the same as Betadine, but at my home I have a similar Iodine but it isn't Poviodone it's called decolorized iodine which I think its the same. The problem I'm worried about is that the bottle says poison on the bottle so I think if someone ingests it they can get poised, Is that the same with the Betadine or Povidone-Iodine?

Unfamiliar with decolorized iodine; found a generic content and warning label: https://www.drugs.com/otc/121115/decolorized-iodine.html

Seems it is largely alcohol, potassium iodide, and water. Obviously a "poison" ingested in quantity, and your bird is tiny. I'm frankly unsure whether this would pose a hazard if applied topically, to say nothing of the fumes potential.
