I'm also very new to the forum.
I have a Pineapple Conure aged 2 named Connie. I've only had her for 2 months, bought from a lady who couldnt spend as much time with her as she needed.

I've previously kept Canaries and a Cockatiel.

I've read extensively about Conures and still learning. What fascinating little birds they are. She is very tame, and a happy little soul.
Her favourite song is " I was Kaiser Bills Batman" by whistling Jack Smith, which she dances to!
She sits on her tail sometimes......is it comfortable?

I live in South Wales,UK,and am a retired lady.:gcc:

Welcome to our happy little corner of the interweb to you and Connie! Conures can and do take over your whole heart, as you’ve probably already discovered :)

As for her sitting on her tail, well, let’s just say i once had a female cockatiel who would do that when she was, ahem, “taking care of business” shall we say?

Looking forward to sharing Connie’s adventures with you!

La Manuka, thankyou for the welcome, your grammar is excellent.
It will take a while to find my way round the forum,I want to ask about Mites, but not sure where to ask,so I will have a look round.
My little bird was kept in a filthy cage, needless to say she very quickly was installed in a big new one, which she loves. However,I do worry that she scratches quite a bit.
I tried to put drops on her neck, but she wasnt having it!

Thanks for your lovely compliment but I think it is our friend Amsterdam for whom English is his second (or possibly third or fourth!) language. Come to think of it, English is pretty much my second language, my first is verbal diarrhoea ;)

There are mite sprays you can probably get from most pet shops but they’re a bit nasty in my opinion - I only buy them to kill ants which are RAMPANT here in Brisbane. Since Connie came from less than ideal conditions it might be a good idea to take her to a certified avian vet for a wellness check. Birds as you probably know are masters at hiding illness, sometimes until it’s too late, so a health check will help you head off anything really nasty and may pinpoint the cause of Connie’s itch.

I hope you will continue to share your journey with us and post some photos soon, we love baby photos round here :)

Thanks Manuka,I thought that might be the best advice, she also has a hammock so I guess this would need replacing as she sleeps in there at night. The cage gets a good going over every other day, sometimes everyday depending on how much mess she decides to make........treat sticks that are used as toys! I ended up putting it out for the wild birds who loved it.

If that hammock is one of those “happy hut” type things I’m afraid you’ll need to bin it. The number of pet parrots that have been injured or killed by them is staggering and they shouldn’t be allowed to be sold. They can cause fatal intestinal blockages when the bird chews on them and ingests the synthetic fibres and many pet birds have strangled themselves or lost limbs when they become entangled on loose threads. Not to mention they can also appear as a nesting site to a bird which can cause some very aggressive hormonal behaviour. Connie will probably grumble about it for a few days but she’s better off without it and they really don’t need them to sleep in anyway.
