Red rumped Parrots
Hello bird lovers ! Just wanted to come by and ask a few questions about the birds i have. I got two lovely Red-rumped parrots as a gift (which honestly, i dislike giving or recieving animals as gifts).
I've got most things out of the way, like food, vitamins, water, maintance etc.

I only have one question though, i live above a restaurant and we sometimes have birthday parties, weddings, etc. so there is loud music. Would the birds be bothered by it? It's pretty loud. What should i do?

Welcome and thanks for joining!

Restaurants are VERY dangerous for birds due to burning food, smoke and TEFLON. Even browning butter can kill a bird due to their extreme respiratory sensitivities.
PLEASSSE read the following thread---I wrote 2 novellas on the following link---scroll downs and you will see them. Teflon/PTFE/PFOA/PFCS is all over kitchens (and hard to ID visually). It also kills on separate floors and through doors so it cannot be used in the same building with a bird...it is common in oven liners, drip trays, some ovens, toasters, certain industrial foils, pots, pans, cookie sheets, air fryers, griddles, waffles irons, hair straighteners, space heaters, etc etc...Frying foods in hot oil can also kill a bird due to the high temperature of the oil/particles in the air.

See the 3rd and 4th posts of mine (from the top) in this thread.

I hope you have a separate hvac system within your living quarters.

You also do not want to give vitamins unless under strict veterinary supervision (by a certified avian vet--not just an exotics vet who sees birds)-- it is very easy to overdose them and adding them to water makes it impossible to monitor intake--plus, it increases bacterial growth and can prevent them from drinking if they dislike the flavor.

Thanks, I've read the whole thread and unfortunately I can't keep them if it has to be like that. I live with my parents who are pretty stubborn and thickheaded, they won't change anything. They said things like "Oh like in the wild there aren't toxic gasses" and something of the lines of "There's no quiet in the wild" referring to the late night TV and other noises in general, our walls are pretty thin so everything can be heard from the other side of the room. Really sucks I'll have to keep them in an environment like this, thanks for the help though. I will try to keep them stress free as possible.

I appreciate and admire the way you reach out and then listen. Best of luck to you as you continue your explorations.

if your parents won't listen and use those pans/dangerous cleaners etc, I would take them to a rescue rather than risk killing them--sometimes it doesn't happen right away..We had a member lose most if her flock from her husband cooking an egg in a pan he had used many times before (different rooms, closed doors etc--didn't matter).
