Black Cap Conure
Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the group! I have an 8 month old Black Cap Conure, and I've had him 2 months now. He's a joy and coming along with training. Target training is about mastered, expect for step up while on his cage. If he flies down to the floor, no problem having him step up and spending limited time on my finger or hand. He'll do well away from the cage, so we walk around the house, encouraging and treating while he tolerates being away from cage. He just won't go from cage to finger! No matter the reward! Also he has started hanging his bottom away from his branch and pooping! Any thoughts?!!

Welcome to the forums! Two months is still relatively new, plenty of time for conditioning to accept fingers. He may have an aversion based on past experiences that you'll never know. Might find some good training hints here: http://www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/49144-tips-bonding-building-trust.html

Is the branch located in the cage or playstand? If the latter, might have to reposition or simply place newspaper to protect the offending spot.

Thanks for the welcome!! His branch is outside the cage, paper is underneath. It's like he's squatting, pitching his bottom forward and squirts! It was kinda funny at first, but the pee stream travels! I will check out the link! Thanks!

Welcome fellow black-capped family!

Don't worry so much about getting him to step up inside the cage. Target him to the bottom of the front door (or beyond) and see if he will step up from there.

Not familiar with conures, at least you don't have a lorikeet. All they do is squirt lol. Might have to move the paper or use additional pieces to protect the floor.
