Hello!
I have been dotting around the forums for a while now and I’m not sure if I’ve ever formally introduced myself!
I’m Julie - previous mama to a green parrotlet named Lola, and yellow lovebird named Coco. Both were sadly rehomed years ago, as I was in my mid-teens when we had them and my parents made the choice due to my mom having developed cancer and them feeling like with everything, we could not take proper care of them. Fortunately, from what I was told, they very quickly went to good homes where they have been loved ever since.
I have been wanting to adopt a GCC for years, but wanted to make sure I was in the perfect position to do so. I do NOT like or believe in rehoming animals, and so I wanted to make sure that there was no chance it would need to happen.
I was going to adopt an adult looking for rehoming, but unfortunately I discovered they were aggressive toward children, and I can’t take that risk with a 4 year old in the home. She is very gentle so I am confident that she will be able to help a bird feel safe and comfortable around her (with my support and supervision of course.) I feel safer knowing we can instil confidence in both of them from the start, rather than running the risk of a truly aggressive fella hurting her.
I know full well a baby will have a hormonal phase and that this will likely bring about biting. Fortunately, the lady I am adopting my CGCC from is very supportive and will guide me through all of the different milestones, as she has with her previous adopting parronts. And, of course, I won’t be allowing my LO to play with the birdie when it’s going through these phases. I’m feeling really confident with this!
Attached is a picture of my little one. S/he is 6 weeks old now, so won’t be home for a while yet. In the meantime, we will be DNA sexing to find out if it’s M/F.
Anyway! I am so excited for this new journey. On one hand I know what to expect, on the other hand I know I’m foolish if I think anything about this will be predictable 😂
So! This is me.
Thanks for having me on the forums. Cheers!
