Hello, my name is Jim and I am from Maryland, USA. I purchased an 11 week old dusky conure (Bubba), two and a half weeks ago. He is currently using my hand as a napkin after finishing his chop.

He is my first parrot and I was lucky to form a quick bond. I love the little guy already. He will step up and will do a 360 degree turn (unless distracted) with a stick and clicker. We still have plenty of bad behavior to correct and I will post a thread in the appropriate forums regarding those things. I have attached a picture of him falling asleep after bath time.

awesome and welcome! My bird INSISTS on wiping her beak on me as well lol! What a sweet looking baby!!!

Have you read up on their respiratory sensitivities to things like Teflon/PTFE/PFOA/PFCs and anything scented, like perfumes, cleaners, candles, plug-ins, air fresheners, aerosols etc?

Since you are a new bird-owner, please read through my responses on the following thread. They are long, but they are important! Sounds like you know a lot already, but SO many people don't understand things relating to hormones, respiratory issues and sleep.

Thanks! I over analyze everything by nature, so I did plenty of research on the don'ts of having a pet parrot. The store where I got him also went through a checklist. I appreciate the warning though.

I leave him in a room with blackout blinds for 12 hours to sleep, but he does still fall asleep on me a lot. He sleeps hanging on the side of his cage, so I worry he isn't getting good sleep.

did you read my link though? With parrots, "over-thinking" can be very helpful.

Good deal-- like I said, it's often good to be paranoid about birds because they are so subtle in their issues..BUT, it does get a bit less stressful as you get to know what is normal for your bird.

Welcome and be welcomed. If your little conure is already learning tricks and clicker training, that great. it means he is eager to learn new stuff. Once they get in learning mode, you can teach all sorts of tricks and things, which is a great way to strengthn the bond with him and yourself. Tuning in circles is a good start.

Welcome Jim and Bubba! Parrots often choose their "people" and that can result in a quick bond. Let us know if you'd like specific advice for the not so nice behaviors!
