Blue and Gold Macaw
Hi,

My husband and I are the proud owners of a 3.5 year old blue and gold macaw named Peanut. We got her at a local bird store from a breeder in Florida and hand-fed her and weaned her when she was a baby. She is a beloved family member and VERY spoiled. Peanut loves to sit by the window and will squawk for hours at the trees and birds outside, she loves her treats when she completes her step-up practice and she enjoys her snuggles every day. We had some screaming problems and she went through a nippy phase ... but she is much better now. She also talks and whistles quite well :blue:

The reason I am joining this forum is to get some tips on how to deal with the screaming and find out what is normal and what not. Peanut usually gets loud when she is out of her cage. When she is in, she rarely screams unless she wants attention (which we dont pay attention to and she stops after 2 or 3 screams). When she is on her playpen however, she barely plays for ten minutes and then screams for me. I cant really leave the room with her ... I am expecting a baby and I am concerned about the noise this is causing every time I take her out by now. I would HATE to just leave her in her cage all day and night. Do I have to maybe slowly train her to stay out longer for play sessions?
