Hi, I have 7 ringneck parakeets, parents and 5 young ones in a large aviary. I would like to add other birds but have been warned the ringnecks are not that friendly. Any suggestions on what would be a good choice. Novice bird owner.

Sorry that I did not introduce myself properly, but im new to forums and dont know the protocol. I have a large aviary in our garden at our guest house and decided to get it started. I was given 7 ringneck parrots from somebody and would like to add other birds as well. I have been told some horror stories of what hook beaks might do to other birds, being a new to all this im not sure what birds could be added. Also I ve heard that I need to have enough nests if I want to bread because they will fight and kill for nests even the young after a year old. Should I remove the nests? I have so many questions and im not sure what route to go. I really just want it to look interesting and be a feature in our garden, but most of all I dont want the birds to be unhappy or uncomfortable in anyway. Im new to all this and would love to find a good site that can give me all the info I require or some comments from experienced bird owners. Thanks Colleen

Personally I have no experience with ring neck. Seen them, held them, etc. Almost brought one home but I didn't. But there's plenty of ring neck owners on here. Hopefully you can get your answer soon! :) welcome to the forum by the way!

I don't have a ringneck, but I have an Alexandrine, their cousin. Of our 3 birdies, he's the most solitary - doesn't really play with the girls at all. I think he would prefer to be an only fid, but he isn't agressive or anything to our other birds. However, he is the smallest of the 3 and we don't have another Alex or ringneck, so there isn't the possibility of ganging up. Not sure how helpful this is.
