Timneh and a peach faced love bird
Hi, we as a family are owned, terrorized and laughed at by a 28+ yr old Timoneh, we re homed him as his previous owners could not handle him, well neither can we! We have had this funny bird for 20+ years, but he still won't let us near him, he goes for the blood and bone every time he bites. But we love him still! Tim, (original huh) was wild caught, we did not understand what that meant when we adopted him, now we do! We are in the process of buying him a new cage, and repositioning him in the house, MAYBE a new cage and space will "throw him off a bit" and we can work with him again. He is great with our dogs, 2 Newfoundlands and a Golden Retriever, he taught them 'respect the bird' real fast LOL. I am hoping that all the combined wisdom on this site will teach me how to correct his bad habits (and mine probably). :grey:

Welcome to the forums! There are plenty of people here who may be able to assist you in the situation you are going though. I'm not familiar with housing a wild caught bird.... Maybe someone here is and can assist. Best of wishes and Welcome again!

Welcome. What is your timneh's name? Takes alot of patience to tame a wild caught anything. 20 years is a long time to live with a bird.
I wish people will just leave them in the wild. Is he perching on a stick for you yet?

Well, when we got him his name was Tim, and we kept it LOL, Yes he steps up onto a stick, understands "go home" when he is on top of his cage, helps take his bowls out to be filled and place them back when refilled, attempts to undo the locks on his cage when he wants out. He has a decent vocabulary, calls for us by name, yells for help when he is bored, blows kisses, pretends to be a budgie, a cockatiel and a lovebird, and lately has been calling for 'George', we don't know a George, but obviously he does LOL. He has stopped growling and hanging upside down, figure that's a good sign, He loves cartoons and the animal channel, but does not like shows with snakes on it, he starts to scream until we turn the channel. These are only some of the reasons we love the little bugger, even though we can't handle him. Funny story, one warm summer day he was on the veranda, which is overgrown in Virgina Creeper so you couldn't see him, a very large woman rode by on her bike, and Tim wolf whistled, my husband was weeding the front beds, and the woman gave him a withering look and a snort! Guess she thought my hubby had the hots for her instead of the parrot!

Love the whistle story. I bet he is as content as a wild caught bird can be. You have done a good job!! Would love to see some photos as I have a female timneh too. She is very sweet and pretty. You can go to the technical forum and you should find instructions on how to upload photos.

Hahaha! Great story (whistling at the cyclist).
How do you manage to get the little guy back inside his cage without getting bitten?

I can get him to step up on a perch or just tell him to "go home", he grumbles under his breath, softly cursing, but he does as he is told.:grey: He really only bites hands, fingers, and dog noses. just to teach respect!

Welcome to the forum. Glad U R here. I am sure someone can help you out. I admire that U have shared your life with Tim for so long. Most people probably would have given up a long time ago :)

Giving up on Tim was never an option, well for 2 reasons, who the heck would want a cranky, biting, non cuddly curmudgeon of an old man parrot, and of course like most pet owners, when we commit to a pet it is for life, either theirs or ours LOL :grey:
