Our dog has been ill all summer & I thought this was finally it for this miracle dog.

Brief history, my husband found her on the interstate ran over, we took her to the vet & 1 pin & 1 plate later we have a dog. I was not happy but she kind of grew on me. :D

While recovering from surgery, she gobbled a dead bird & became deathly ill. Another vet visit, she recovered. :)

A year or 2 of health & my neighbor decided to spray his fence row, Dawg ate the grass & an emergency trip to vet. I kept an icepack on her on the way to the vet, saved her life. Most poisonings kill by raising the body temp, (extreme fever). She lived & added another $1200 to my vet record. Dr Wills loves Dawg. :)

1 month after Merlin came to live w/us, my 18 yo Manx cat Razz became sick, she had been listless for a week or so, I thought she was pouting because of the new addition. It turns out she had been poisoned by the chinese pet food problem. The day I admitted something was wrong, Dawg collasped too. We had both of them @ the vets @ the same time. In cats it causes kidney failure, in dogs anemia. I lost Razz, w/her age her kidneys were weak, there was nothing we could do. :(

Dawg was given a transfusion, started on steriods. I added iron supplements & cooked beef liver for her every day along w/marrow bones. Dawg fights on! She was on them for almost a year, the vet monitored her blood levels & it was increasing. Did I mention Dr Wills loooovvves Dawg. :p

We finally decided that her red blood cells were @ a good level & started weaning her off of the steriods. D Wills didnt think it would work given how long she was on them, but it did. She had been off of them over 3.5 years.

We have another dead squirrel gobbling, but that wasn't going to kill Super Dawg.

This summer it started again, I knew the signs. She is taking a NSAID for arthritis. I accidently found that 1 of the side effects was lowering red blood cells. Dr Wills missed it. He's been my vet my whole life, but I cant say hes great w/small animals. He was wonderful w/the horses.

We're back on the steriods. I was 2 days away from putting Dawg to sleep, I just didnt think that given her age (12-13) she had a chance. She is on another NSAID & the full regiment for the anemia.

This week she suprised me again, shes galloping everywhere, going for walks. Back to her happy self. We are so happy, we weren't ready to lose her yet. :)

I am grateful for everyday this dog has been in our lives. She's gentle & patient, clean & polite. The perfect dog.

And not only you guys love Dawg, so does Dr Wills. I laughed at that but isnt it amazing that true animals lovers will spend whatever $$$ they need to so that their "babys" are helped and yet there are so many out there that dont give a ****. Thank God for people like you.
Seriously tho, you guys did a good thing helping a injured animal and he has gone on to be a very loved part of your family. He sure is a cutie.

Im so sorry for your loss, I know that losing a friend you have put to much love and patience into can be heartbraking, but she is comfortable now, no more ouchies. An you can breath easier knowing you gave her everything you had while she was with you, you made her life worth living, as she did yours.

Thanks guys. I really dont know what went wrong, she was fine 2 days before. I started her back on the steriods the day b4 when I first had an idea something was wrong. Merlin has taken a loving to black grapes lately, I am wondering if he fed some to Dawg. I missed some from the counter where he eats his fresh stuff.

He watched my husband bury her yesterday, now he stands in that window & screams. I know he is missing his dog, they had a love/hate relationship. Parrots show their love differently than other animals. Never be another dog like her, she was wonderful & I'm glad to have loved her.
