I am new here and a few of you know i just decided to take on the quit smoking challenge. Day 3 and i coudnt have picked a worse time to quit. However i view this as a true test and i am pulling through so far. I just wanted to share a little about this sweet pup named hope.
I am very into dog rescue. I have 4, 2 pits and 2 mixes. One of those mixes is hope.

I have known her her whole life. When i fist met my husband his parents had just brought her home. She was a part of their family and soon i became a part of it too. When hope was 2 her mom and dad moved to florida. My husband (boyfriend at the time) and i were living in an apartment and couldnt take her. Hope moved in with a family friend. we didnt think much about it...apparently she was kept in the basement and got mange, fleas, urine scolded paws, the whole thing. No one knew this until Hopes mom and dad came back from not liking florida and asked for hope back. Hope was 4 when they moved into a beautiful house with a few acres. Hope being half collie, loved this place. We all worked together and got her healthy again. She spent many years running to her hearts content, chasing deer and bunnies. That is where my boyfriend became my husband and of course she was invited to the reception. When Hope was 7 they all moved in with her moms sister. The economy played its part and it made more sense to share a mortage. Hope was settled by then and wasnt too concerned with the lack of yard, she just liked to lay on the front porch, or sleep on the couch. At 9 Family drama caused hopes parents to move into a rental and leave her at the house. They assumed she was in good hands. Turns out she was again put in the basement because she was "too hairy". Hopes mom was concerned and by now we own a home and have more then a compassion for dogs. When she came to me, she was dehydrated, emaciated, and her toenails were so long the one dew claw grew up and into her paw pad. Again my husband and i returned her to health. I thought it was amazing that through all hope has been through, she went from my boyfriends parents house to our home 10 years later.

So here we are, 12 years old and suffering from renal failure. She is laying at my feet having trouble breathing, hasnt kept food or water down in 2 days, and lethargic. It is breaking my heart to have to say goodbye. The vet gave us comfort meds and we are just seeing it through...
I called hopes mommy last night (my mother in law) to let her know it wasnt looking good. She will be picking her up today so she can finish her journey with the people she began it with....ok here come the tears...

Im sorry i know that is a lot to read and i promise i wont be offended if you dont read the whole thing. Im just upset and i wanted to get out hopes little journey... Here is to hoping she gets to the rainbow bridge with ease...
Thank you for listening![ Please excuse my daughters bum....it was one of those toddler phases...

I'm sorry to hear about this and will be thinking of you and your family. At least you made Hope's life much better when you had her.

Thank you all for your kind words. I have never experienced the renal failure before, so i keep getting excited when she gets up to move around. She went outside to use the bathroom and for a second i thought we were gonna make it through this :)

I think i am still in denial...
Thanks for taking the time to read about her!

I had a dalmatian that had renal failure. She did pretty good for a while, we gave her sub-q fluids at home, a special diet, and medications. We knew when it was her time though, and she was peacefully allowed to cross over on her favorite chair. She was the best dog ever, but don't tell the others.

I had Dalmatians, too. I had one growing up and 2 more as an adult. Yes, don't tell the others but I'll never have another dog like Dominic. He was my once in a lifetime special boy.

I had a cat with renal failure. By the time I knew though, it was unfortunately too late. She died a few minutes after I got her to the vet. I feel for you, I really do. I pulled into the parking lot of the vet with a cop chasing me. He let me go thankfully upon seeing a crying woman holding her dying cat.

As a fellow animal rescuer, I want to thank you for the great work you do, and have done. It is never easy watching our babies get old, sick, or die. Know that you did things to make this sweetie's life better, and now it's time for her to go. If you're like me, this will serve to open up a place for some new friend in need. Be strong...there are many who need us! "Until there's none, rescue one!"

Thank you so much. She was a great girl and suffered through a lot to stay with the family. I am happy her last stop was being spoiled by us. My mother in law just came to get her. we both cried and i know im going to be teary all day until i get the call that she is gone. I figured they would want to be together in the end...

And of course with her end will be a new begining...we will have room and resources for another in need. I will probably take another visit to the county gassing pound as nauseating as that is...
Thank you again for your kindness

View attachment 3283I thought i would share my remaining furkids...try to bring some joy into all of this by sharing my babies.
Cody is the australian shepard mix i got him from a gassing pound literally minutes before they began the gassing. A few of us went in and cleared out the kennels and got them all adopted out. that was a wonderful day. cody stayed as a reminder and he fell in love with my kids.
Daisy is my brown pit, she was a breeder from a fighting raid
And joker my white and grey pit was a puppy rescued from a fighting raid.
Hope you enjoy them. trying to stay positive...
