I want to make a deposit on an appy foal, but someone already has dibs. So I will learn tomorrow if I can get him or not.

Wish me luck! He's from Palisades Appaloosas For Sale

I have my fingers crossed for you! I'm an Appy person as well. They are wonderful horses with brains, good sense and athletic ability to boot. I currently have one, and have had 3 others.

Gah I have to wait till tomorrow, she hasn't heard back from the 2nd party yet. She doesn't think they realized the foal was only a week old, and they'll have to wait 5 months before they get him. So it sounds hopeful, we'll see. I'm trying not to think of names. :D

Oh and my plans are mostly trail riding, pleasure, maybe some novice endurance (years down the road.) My friend shows appys, so I may even do a show or two!

I have a 5 year old that will just be getting into his prime by the time I can break this one, so they'll be well spread apart in age. :D

He's mine, he's mine!!! I was able to put my deposit on him!! I'm soooo excited.. Now I just have to wait till August to bring him home.

That'll give me time to sell my coming 2 year old Quarterhorse/Arabian pony. I bought him last summer, but he's too small. He was suppose to grow to 15 hands, he's barely over 13. He will make some kid a nice pony though.. So I'll get him ready while I wait for the new one!!

His barn name is "Rio" but I will change it, not sure to what yet. I was thinking Sky or Blue, since he's got that blue roan look to him..

Oh, I'm so glad! Apps sure can change coloring over time though; particularly the ones with a lot of roaning. My first horse was mostly bay when I bought her, at 5 years old. 2 years later she was mostly white, lol! That was true of one of my others as well. When I looked at her registration papers, I was like, wow, doesn't even look like the same horse now! When I got her she was pretty much a leopard, but she didn't start out that way!

You may get to bring him home sooner. I've had babies wean in just 3 months (ok he was being abusive to his mother as well, which is why I pulled him), or as long as 6 months. He's so beautiful and I know you must be soooo excited! Keep us updated.

I can't wait to see him change. I'm really hoping he sheds out to be more of a leopard than he already is. You can see on his face he's got spots around his blaze, so I have a feeling some of the blue roan will come off to be just dots (here's hoping!)

She said his blue eye will stay, his father (Nuggets Super Shado) has the sabiano gene. Sooo excited. I'm hoping to keep getting updated pictures, I can't wait till she takes his video.

She keeps them for a month after they wean, to train them to load into a trailer and lead/halter more. She works on getting them use to human touch when they're born and nursing. August is a good time, I'll have to get him castrated soon though as we have mares at the facility I board at. I'm hoping to do that late October, when the flies die.

Well, nothing wrong with an extra month of training without mom hovering over the baby. My Appy mare was so protective of Roxy, lol! I'd take her out for training work and mom would just scream at us the whole time. I'd post some pics here of my Appys, but yesterday the forum told me I have reached my limit on attachments. I'm not sure what to do about that.

One of my horses, the grulla one, really didn't change at all with age as far as coloring. And Roxy didn't get any Appy color from her mom so she still looks the same (she looks just like her daddy, a Thoroughbred).

Congrats! He's a beauty! I had a red roan appy, she was the most stable, all round horse I ever owned. Do you know what color his hoofs are?

Yes!

His hooves are.. brown by the look, so they may blacken more. It's hard to tell, they may be muddy lol. See, picture!
This ones my favorite. He looks.. very "blue" lol. I may name him Blue, but its not fancy enough.

My farrier swore that white hoofs were softer. Would love to go back & experience the baby years again. Alot of work, but lots of fun. What are you going to ride while he's growing up?

I own a coming 5 year old grade QH geilding. He still needs constant work and can be very green, so he'll keep me plenty busy for the next 2 1/2- 3 years. :)

I think they are just a bit muddy. I think they are probably light colored, and hopefully have the Appy stripes (I love that!). That is Roxy's only nod to being an Appy; one horn colored hoof with stripes.

I've also been told the horn colored hooves are softer, but I'm not completely convinced that's true.

Roxy, there should be a link somewhere when it tells you that you're over your limit to clear your attachments. It'll take you to a list of photo's you attached in previous posts. Just delete the older ones that are no longer really being looked at. :( I keep having to do that myself.

I'm not sure about lighter hooves being softer, I hope not! I'm in a rocky part of Maryland, but my other horse gets front shoes because of that so I suppose it is what it is.
