These are my fish tanks. They are very relaxing to watch. The left is a 46 gallon bow front. I just took out the 5 1/2 gallon tank and replaced it with the ten gallon on the right top yesterday. They are both fresh water fish tanks:

Re: More Pets//SORRY

Can't post the pic. Too big. Cute white/brown hamster, though. Everything has to be made smaller to upload here. :(

Sorry about your hamster. :( We had hamsters before. They died after a few years though. They were white dwarfs, but they weren't nippy at all.

I take pictures alot. I think animal pictures are just too cute not to share, no matter what animal it is.

Awww I love leopard geckos. They have this permanent smile on their faces.

I have a 46 gallon bowfront just like that. I had two very large pipa pipa (Suriname toads) frogs in it. (why they're called frogs & toads is beyond me) It sprung a leak while I wasn't home last summer and drained all the water out and ruined my carpet (another whole story LOL) I made it home in the nick of time to save their lives. I put the frogs in a bucket of water and took them to the pet shop, where I work from time to time, and put them in a tank there until I could seal the leak in the bowfront. Two days later the heater at the shop malfunctioned and cooked my pipa pipas. The poor things didn't have a chance!
Now my 46 gallon houses an Amazon tree boa.

Hey Karen, you know about reptiles better than anyone else I know, at what size should I switch my Gecko into the 20 long tank I have for him? I don't have much in his tank, there is a heating pad on the bottom, is there anything you can think of that I should have in his tank? I feed crickets only, aside from mealworms, which I won't feed, is there anything else I should be giving him?

Thank Peta! I often do sit and stare at them, especially when I'm really stressed out. It's great therapy.

A 20 long is great for him right now. They like places to hide. A humid hide will help him shed.

They also love superworms. The superworm is soft bodied and is larger than a mealworm. Superworms keep a lot longer than either mealies or crickets, weeks & weeks compared to a week or two.

As for mealworms, there is nothing wrong with feeding your gecko mealies. Mealworms are fed by the top leopard gecko breeders in this country and are a good source of food.

Thanks for the info. Karen. :) I thought you would be the best one to ask. I will have to set him up in the bigger tank then. I already have it, I just thought he would get lost in it. Guess I should have been thinking on the same lines as I do with my birds, the bigger the cage the better. Oh well, live and learn.....

It is nice to know that there are people here who are able to answer all sorts of questions on other pets, and that is the best way to learn I always think.

Karen, can I ask you one more question??? I scrub his tank and change the calci sand, but I can never get rid of the smell. I have been afraid to use anything except hot water to clean it, which is probably why. Is there anything I can use to clean the tank that will get rid of the smell without harming him?

 Alison,

I know nothing about reptiles, but thought I'd ask, is lemonjuice harmful to them? If you clean with natural lemon, it will take away the smell. Rince well, may smell lemony-fresh, but I doubt citrus will hurt the little guy..

Sorry but it's snake breeding time and I've been a busy little matchmaker.

I didn't realize that was Calci-sand. Calci-sand is bad, no matter what the package says. The package says the animals will eat it and it will give them extra calcium when in fact if they eat it they will become impacted because it doesn't break down in their stomach. Put some of it in battery acid and it won't dissolve!

For substrate you can use: Paper towels, newspaper, washed playsand, small gravel or ESU Desert Blend litter. One good thing is all of these are a lot cheaper than Calci-sand!

I use liquid soap, water and window cleaner to clean glass cages. MKay is right, lemon juice won't hurt them at all. As long as the surface is dry and any smell from the cleaner has dissipated, you're good to go.

How on earth would you play matchmaker to a snake!!!!!!!!

Wow that Calci sand sounds nasty stuff, I've heard a lot of people here say how they use that, will have to let them know.

Thank you very much for the information. I don't really know much about reptiles as I'm sure you already figured out, so I have to rely on what others tell me. I was told to use that C-sand, so I did. Thanks again. :)
