Sorry guys I havn't been on much or responding to any posts. My bearded dragon is very sick and currently staying at the vet. He has a large lump inside he's intestines and I'm not sure what it is yet, waiting for x rays today. I will be back around soon when I hear some news on him. Please everyone keep your fingers crossed for my little guy.

Well he had a big poop (the biggest they've ever seen come out of a beardie) so they did a fecal test and found nothing wrong. My vet and I decided it was best to bring him home and monitor him to see if he improved.

The first night home he was great not hungry but happy to be home and quite active. Well after that it has gotten worse. He is not doing well at all again, will not remove and refuses to eat and drink. He is going back to the vet tomorrow so, I will probably not be writing alot until I get things sorted out.

Thanks for understanding everyone.

Well we've done blood work and he has kidney and liver failure, now I'm his vet giving him injections and force feeding. I will be very busy but I will be checking in just not writing much. I will try to respond to everyone when I come back around.

How does the vet want to handle the kidney and Liver long term?
Is he confident it wont keep you poor for the rest of life paying for medication?

I have a great vet that gave me all the medication and medical supplies for free. There isn't much research on reptiles for kidney and liver failure so the long term out look is let nature take its course.

I'm so glad he's doing better.
My nephew is getting a bearded dragon next week, adopting a year old one rescued from someone. Apparently it has a club foot or something.
He wants to name it Ryan.:eek::confused:
I guess there must be a bunch of Puffs', thats what he was going to name his until he came up with Ryan. We are hoping he changes his mind, Puff sounds much better! Not that Ryan is a bad name or anything.. just sounds a little... gay.. for a lizard. Of course I lied and told him it was the best name I've ever heard (while trying not to giggle)
Anyway, I told him about your Puff and he hopes the little guy gets better soon!

Puff is still doing well, I have stopped giving him his needles and force feeding him. He is eating a full bowl of veggies a day so thats good!!!

I've never found any other Puffs, lots of Spikes though. Is he still sticking with the name Ryan? :p

If you need any information on bearded dragons, let me know. I've learned alot about taking care of these guys.

I'm so glad Puff is feeling better!!!
It turns out 'Ryan' is a girl so my nephew is probably going to stick with Puff. The funny thing is I think Ryan would be a good name for a female dragon... lol.
The poor thing has a club foot because it's owner died and the other dragons tried to eat it, or something. Other than that she is very healthy.
I gave him my 55 gallon terrarium, it's one of the short wide ones, pretty large actually.
When my brother went to pick the lizard up the guy gave him the EXACT same cage, lol.. So now I have to go get my terrarium back and find someone else who needs one!

I noticed you said he's eating veggies, I thought they were primarily insect eaters? My nephew had mentioned meal worms but I told him that was a bad idea. I had a lizard as a kid who probably suffered horribly and later died because the meal worms actually chewed on him from the inside when he ate them. (Had an autopsy done)
He said something about freeze dried ones but that didn't sound very yummy to me.
I hope Puff continues to improve!!

Puff is missing a small piece of his tail from other dragons biting it off before I got him.

She sounds good, its pretty typical for Dragons to bite the toes and tails of other dragons if there is no other food. As long as she has a good fat deposit in her tail she should be pretty healthy. Thats a great size cage, don't forget the different lighting he will need and Dragons love to climb. Puff will actually jump up into his different branchs.

Once a bearded dragon becomes an adult veggies should be a big part of their diet. They love variety and color, I use Kale, Radicho, Carrots, Peas, Mustard Greens, Collard Greens, Spinach, etc. Puff gets his bowl of salad first then later in the day he gets his insects. Right now he is eating superworms because they contain more water then crickets which he needs now with his kidney problems. I will be putting him back on crickets this week though, I prefer them over the worms. Puff actually likes the freeze dried crickets better then the live ones. I may start him on pinkie mice soon too, they are better for them to eat. Dead ones though, I don't think I could watch him eat live ones. Don't forget to tell your nephew to get a calcium and vitamin powder to sprinkle on the food.

Hope this helps!!!

Ok great! I'll be sure to let them know to provide fresh greens/vegetables too. I sent over a heat lamp and one of those fluorescent artificial sunlight lights. I'm sure my nephew is having a ball decorating the tank. Thanks so much for all the help!! I'm hoping to go visit in the next few days to meet the 'new kid' :)

I of course forgot the camera. Poor New Puff. She is horribly skinny. I can see the bones on her back by the sides of her tail so I know she's not just flattening herself out. They say she is eating well and she seems very alert but she's just so god-awful skinny I don't know if she'll make it. She's missing all the toes on one foot but the foot itself seems to be healing. They are putting aloe on it every evening because some reptile expert guy told them that was the best thing to use.. I dunno.
She's very tame and cute.. I really hope she makes it. They are gut loading crickets and also shake-n-baking them with that vitamin coating. They are also offering fresh veggies and greens every day.

How is your Puff doing?
