Hi guys :)

We've just added a new addition to our family - a guinea pig. As they are social animals we may be going to pick up another one today!

Anyway, his name is mouse and he is 6months

I've had guineas before, but now that I am older im more interested in particular breeds and showing

Was wondering if anyone could help out identifying what breed, or what mix mouse might be?? Let me know if photo worked

Aww how cute! My sister bought two guinea pigs last week, I find them cute but I don't care to interact with them.

Yours is adorible! If you got him from a pet store he is probably not a specific show breed but a mix. Someone may know :)

thanks guys :)

I'm pretty sure he is a mix. We got him for free from a lady who could no longer keep him :D with 2 cages, three harnesses, carry cage and all the extras!

mouse look like he could be part Abyssinian, they have lots of cow licks and whorls

we have 5 guinea pigs, they are such characters, they hear the fridge open and a bag rattle and they all start talking

My son shows guinea pigs. Your is definitely some sort of mixed breed. I would say maybe a silkie and an aby. He could also just be an american with long hair. Cute pig. Most male pigs who have been living alone don't take too kindly to sharing cages. If you are getting another pig, you might have to house them separately; we routinely have our males share cages, but they are used to it and some definitely can't get along. If you put them in the same cage, make sure you have a big pile of Timothy hay in the cage so that they can hid from each other. Some fighting will occur, but if they are trying to bite each other, you will have to separate them. Make sure you throw a towel over the pig you are taking out or you will get bitten for sure--and they bite hard when they are riled up. Guinea pigs, generally are super friendly and you don't have to worry about getting bit in general.

For more information about guinea pigs, try the American Cavy Breeders Association website or Guinea Lynx. Both sites have tons of information on care, diseases, showing and breeding. Good luck!

Congrats on your guinea pig. He is a cutie. My daughter's guinea pig took his last breaths last week as I was holding him and she was at school. Very sad. They are such sweet critters.

My guess would also be part aby. I have had a few over the years and they are the neatest friendliest pets you can imagine. I love the noises they make especcially if you open the fridge and pull out a carrot. Also you might want to put a waterproof towel on your lap when holding them. I could never figure out how to potty train them:p

Thanks guys for all the info :) We got another male

Mouse used to live with 2 other males, so is used to living with others. Saying that, we of course didnt just chuck them in together :D As mouse came with two cages, we have them seperated but with wire of each cage facing each other so they can suss each other out. Probably wont fully introduce them for a while as new male is younger and needs to grow.

Sorry to hear about the loss angiern! :(

Going to join local cavy club :)
