If you get the song lyric reference, bonus points for you ;).

I currently have 5 dogs. Four are mine and one is a foster that is going to her potential new home next weekend. I know all about bird safety with dogs. I grew up with both.

When the time comes to let Skittles out of his cage my dogs will be put in a separate part of the house. But eventually I believe Skittles will be safe while supervised around them.

The only one with a prey drive is the foster dog who is a Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix.

I have a Lab/Beagle/Basset mix who is super gentle. I had some backyard chickens (that unfortunately were killed by a crafty raccoon last summer) that I had raised from few day old peeps-6 week old chicks in my home. They would have "run around time" in my living room and my Lab mix would just lay there and let them hop on and around him no problem. Never made a move to bite and never rough housed them.

I also have a very timid/shy puppy mill rescue Chihuahua who has no interest in prey of any kind. Then I have a 10 year old 4 lb Pomeranian rescue who has no interests beyond sleeping, playing with the other 4lb dog, and eating. No small animals phase her. And then there is my 1 year old 5 lb Chihuahua/Yorkie mix. She is more afraid of Skittles than he is of her. She runs to the other side of the room and gives him a wary eye. She has never seen a parrot before and she is the only one I am slightly worried about. But like I said they won't be allowed loose around Skittles when he is loose. At least not for a long time.

Anyways to my point lol. It cracks me up. When I go over to Skittles cage and talk to him and make kissing sounds, I end up with 3-4 little dogs at my feet begging for attention. They don't seem to get what is so great about that loud colorful thing in cage up to high for them to get to lol.

My chi/yorkie mix "Fae" is especially put out. Since she is the only one I usually baby talk. It seems to absolutely puzzle her when I am talking to the bird and not her lol.

Does anyone else's pets get jealous of your fids?

I have one umbrella cockatoo. A female 3 years old named Mina.
I have a Rottweiler who is totally my baby boy. He has a REALLY high prey drive. Well then I saw Mina my 17 month old U2 at a pet store. She was about 1 month maybe 2 when I saw her. I started begging my husband right away for her. I knew umbrellas did not do well in these situations. I wanted to rescue her. But what about Laderic(Rottweiler ). Well I got Mina. W we had to make some arrangements for her protection. She has her own bedroom. We put up a baby gate so he can't get to that end of the hall. His nose is REALLY out of joint! We had some acting out, like peeing in the house when he has Never peed before. So now I have a routine that I spend mornings with him afternoons with her and I have to keep them separated. He would kill her no doubt about it. I am always amazed that people mix their birds with dogs/cats. They are much braver than I am. So yes I have a jealous boy, he is now on Prozac because the whole thing upset him so much. I wouldn't change a thing I adore them both. What do you do for your situation?

Oh yeah, I can imagine that your dogs are definitely puzzled!

When my lory was a baby, she was very jealous of the phone. We learned quickly not to be holding the bird while talking on the phone, because she'd attack the phone with a vengeance, lol. Now she just chants "bye-bye" when she sees us on the phone. :)

Every time I open the pellet or seed jar the dogs run to the kitchen thinking I'm opening the dog treat jar. We also have 5 dogs, but they've been trained from the time they were little to leave the birds alone, same with the cats (we have 2.)

I don't trust my dogs with any birds other then the macaws as they were bitten by the macaw when they were young so they remember how much pain they can give them if they try. All it takes for the cats to leave them alone is one loud scream from the big birds and they scatter. :)

Lilo - Female Green Cheek Conure ~ Pal - male cockatiel ~ Pheobe - female cockatiel
I totally trust meh dogs with Lilo of corse with supervision, Allie my Lab/Rottie/GSD mix whom is 11 and all she cares about is sleeping! But once in a while she perks her ears and looks intently at Lilo when I play with her then I watch them like a hawk! And Schatzi my 3 year old Basenji/Patterdale terrier mix is scared to DEATH of her! Its so funny :) When we had gotten Schatzi she was the spotlight and we all smothered her in love but then when I got Lilo I gave attention to her so Schatzi resents her now but if I gave Schatzi the same attention I give Lilo, she would find me boreing and dull and all I want to do is cuddle (witch she hates) :)
