If you get the song lyric reference, bonus points for you .
I currently have 5 dogs. Four are mine and one is a foster that is going to her potential new home next weekend. I know all about bird safety with dogs. I grew up with both.
When the time comes to let Skittles out of his cage my dogs will be put in a separate part of the house. But eventually I believe Skittles will be safe while supervised around them.
The only one with a prey drive is the foster dog who is a Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix.
I have a Lab/Beagle/Basset mix who is super gentle. I had some backyard chickens (that unfortunately were killed by a crafty raccoon last summer) that I had raised from few day old peeps-6 week old chicks in my home. They would have "run around time" in my living room and my Lab mix would just lay there and let them hop on and around him no problem. Never made a move to bite and never rough housed them.
I also have a very timid/shy puppy mill rescue Chihuahua who has no interest in prey of any kind. Then I have a 10 year old 4 lb Pomeranian rescue who has no interests beyond sleeping, playing with the other 4lb dog, and eating. No small animals phase her. And then there is my 1 year old 5 lb Chihuahua/Yorkie mix. She is more afraid of Skittles than he is of her. She runs to the other side of the room and gives him a wary eye. She has never seen a parrot before and she is the only one I am slightly worried about. But like I said they won't be allowed loose around Skittles when he is loose. At least not for a long time.
Anyways to my point lol. It cracks me up. When I go over to Skittles cage and talk to him and make kissing sounds, I end up with 3-4 little dogs at my feet begging for attention. They don't seem to get what is so great about that loud colorful thing in cage up to high for them to get to lol.
My chi/yorkie mix "Fae" is especially put out. Since she is the only one I usually baby talk. It seems to absolutely puzzle her when I am talking to the bird and not her lol.
Does anyone else's pets get jealous of your fids?
