Hiiiii,

So i have done 6 weeks of uni!

Absolutely LOVING it... Health science is easy, paramedics is easy, human anatomy is easy, but ALOT to remember, and chemistry is ok, boring and a bit challenging, but i am getting through.. Got 80% on both my chemistry tests, so as long as i am passing haha

I did a 15 minute assignment on Acute Myocardial Infarctions, so let's just say i know basically everything you need to know about one, and if you ever have a heart attack, i can save you hahaha ^_^

Human anatomy we were learning about cells, and skin, and now we are learning all about the axial and apppendicular skeleton.. Really loving this topic, i have skeleton diagrams all over my desk and different sections of bones and ligaments! Fun stuff!

But you don't want to hear about study right haha

The good stuff?

Horsesssssss!!!

Kyros is Mister Fantastic like usual... He is perfect..

We have gone to a show or training session usually each weekend!

For those who don't know, Kyros hasn't done much his whole life, he never went to many shows, so the whole showing environment is new to both of us! I also found out recently that the last owner hardly even rode him, and got someone else to ride him once a week because he was too much to handle, because this rider found me on facebook, and then told me she couldn't believe how well he was doing..

Apparently she couldn't get him to jump high, and definitely not do cross country.. So she said we must have an incredible bond, and he must have so much trust in me!

Oh and 'He can't be ridden on roads, especially alone, it is too dangerous, he is scared of cars'

Kyros and i canter along the road each day, about 1-2km to get our fitness up for cross country.. Doesn't even blink twice at cars!

and lastly, Klaatu, my baby clydesdale cross, is now old enough to be ridden! He is INCREDIBLE, very very clever.. My mum thinks that him and I will go far.. Such a bright little boy, i honestly can't believe how much he has learnt in just 4 rides!

Pictures!!!

Firstly my three boys:
Kyros, Kitai, Klaatu

Next Kyros and i free jumping... When i got him i was told- He can't be jumped because he is too strong and goes stupid when he sees a jump and just bolts at it...

Yes.. He is so strong to jump.. haha

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGajo4ka17Y&feature=youtu.be"]Kyros jumping no reins - YouTube[/ame]

and then we have our one day event-

Showjumping day- Kyros is clearing 1.15m at home, but at comps we are doing 60-80cm, because we have never done comps before, so starting small !

and more pics in the next post

He's enormous! You'll be able to slap a saddle on him and ride him as well. :D

It's funny, I was wondering about you yesterday and then you post your update. You must be psychic.

I wish I could be confident to ride without reins.

Tab, all your animals are gorgeous! Horses are beauties, and doggie is a super cutie! Thanks for showing us :) Your horse hobbies are especially cool for us non-horse familiar people ;)

I'm glad your liking school too. I know you will do great!

Haha Cyph is getting very hairy as well! :p

Strudel, Kyros is actually very easy to ride reinless, because he has huge balanced movements, he keeps a steady pace which is easy to ride!
That was the second time we had free jumped, so only small jumps, and will get bigger! :)

Thank you Julie! Horse riding is so great, each day after studying my head is just filled with things, i just have a break for 2 hours and ride.. It is brilliant! haha :)

We have a hunter trial this sunday! Can't wait :D

No he is a maremma! :) They look similar, both big white and hairy haha

Oh i forgot to say.. Smeagol comes back to visit :D

December last year he was released into the wild, and he disappeared one night...

Well, almost 4 weeks ago, i was sitting in my room, and i heard this sound, which Smeagol used to make, this noise he would do to call for me!

I sprinted outside with the torch, and there he was.. Sitting in the tree!

About a week later, i was sitting in my room again, and he called for me again!

and he came back a week ago as well!!!

We have no other possums around our house area, because of the dogs, and none would come to the same tree outside my room.. Plus it is a boy, and not fully grown..

So it is definitely him! He has an old injury on his chest though, poor boy!

But i couldn't believe he keeps coming back and calling for me! <3

Ohh amazing about Smeagol!! Wow, that's so cute like you're Snow White LOL!

A Maremma is one I've never heard of! Had to look it up ...and if I may say so myself, I am pretty good when it comes to unusual dog breeds ;)

Hahaha i honestly couldn't believe it.. He had just disappeared that night.. and 3-4 months later he suddenly shows up!

Oh really! ;) Maremmas are one of the more common breeds farmers keep here in Aus! I know of 3 people apart from us on our road who have one!

I had never even heard of a Great Pyrenees before this forum when i posted pics of cypher! I have never seen them for sale!

Tab, your horses are breathtaking! Cypher is beautiful too. I've never met a maremma, but he does look very similar to the Great Pyrenees. They are very popular farm and ranch dogs in Texas. I've known several and all of them had sweet personalities. I was certain that was Cypher's breed. :)

I am so happy that you are enjoying your classes. Thanks for the photos and update.

I really love your Fid's names.

Congratulations on the 3Ks, Tab! I can't believe you're riding Klaatu - he looks so grown up! I had to smile at the pic of him under saddle. He's all forehand, isn't he? Eventually, his hindquarters will catch up and grow ahead and then his forequarters will do the same. Our Clydie/QH, Kate, did that too. I also think the Clydies look so young for their age - not like Thoroughbreds that look grown up almost the day after they're foaled. LOL! Klaatu has a great build for hunting or cross-country. I can't wait to see what you make of him!

Kyros, of course, is his usual magnificent self. Whoever's teaching you jumping (A-J?) is clearly bringing you along at a great pace. I love that you're doing free jumping - by the time you've finished, you'll have a seat like velcro and Kyros will have complete confidence in you.

You didn't give us an update on Kitai? How's his hoof? Any signs of improvement? As 'luck' would have it, my sister's Chippy re-opened his wound and she found him standing in a puddle of blood one morning with the skin flap just hanging off. The vet had to remove it and fill the wound with some kind of veterinary putty. At least it's clean and is healing slowly, but it's going to take aaaaagggeeessss and we really don't know whether Chippy will be sound at the end of it. Mind you, his latest hobby is grabbing the wheelbarrow by the handle and trying to make off with it, so he can't be feeling all that bad. I hope Kitai's powering on too. Sending him a special hug! :)

Keep on keeping on, Tab - GREAT things are ahead for you and the the Ks! :) :) :)

Allee - That is the reason i chose a maremma, they have the sweetest personalities!!

They are very shy careful dogs, they aren't the type of dog to slobber all over you and jump on top of you, not really that playful type!

He is such a great dog. Mum actually says he is the best dog we have ever had!

and thank you.. I try and give them unusual names ;) hahaha

Trish! I know right :D Hahaha He is still working out his gaits ;) Honestly, he walks with a spring in his step, and when he canters it feels like a little deer hopping along haha!

Have alot of work to do, he is kind of holding himself back at the moment.. But he is doing so well!

When i rode him the first time, his head was in the air, wouldn't bring it down.. And after 4 rides he is holding it much nicer!! :)

Yes i think he will be a great cross country boy, i cant wait for him to be old enough to start jumping!

and yes, i still see him as a baby though.. Next to the other 2, he still looks young!

I have done ALL his jumping, mum doesn't know anything about jumping unfortunately, and i have only had one jumping lesson on him, and apart from that it has just been me! :)

Oh my gosh! Poor Chippy  Oh wow, the poor boy is just as unlucky as Kitai! :(

Well... Do you really want to know about Kitai? hahaha

A week after he was allowed to be ridden, i had ridden him once, then a week later, i went down to give him another little ride.. and oh... wait a second.. Kitai is limping again..

Oh, his back leg is VERY swollen, maybe its another abscess, because a month before he had the abscess in the front hoof and his leg was swollen..

So me and mum iced his legs, poulticed his hoof, and put cream on in case it was injury..

Got him to the vet a few days later... ' Oh we need to scan that, it doesn't look right'

Sedation, ultrasound..

Drum roll..

Yes, Kitai had torn/ruptured ? his tendon.. It isn't connected, the words they used was 'exploded out'... You could see on the scan, normal tendon, and BOOM, there is this huge mess!

Soooooo.... 9-12 months rest.. No riding.. Hahahaha ^_^ I couldn't believe it...

Then they had to take a sample to make sure it isn't infected, if it was they said he would most likely have to be put down.. But it wasn't thank god..

I realise Kitai does as much damage as he can, WITHOUT hurting himself so much to be put down... He just finds an excuse not to be ridden ;)

But he is fine, he walks normally.. You wouldn't even tell... But the vets say he has an incredible high pain tolerance.. Silly boy!

My farrier, who is the nicest man ever, was so excited i could start riding him again..

and he just stood there the whole 6 hours we were there, saying, i can't believe this horse tabitha.. I can't believe he has done this...

I was like ahhh its ok.. I am used to it now haha

My farrier has emailed a few times saying 'These 2 horses are going to send me to an early grave' or 'I am getting grey hair because of these 2' :p hahaha

But yes, that is the wonderful kitai!

Oh Trish, the other day, when Kyros and i were cantering along the road, we did this bit of a gallop, it is nothing like Kitais ;) Kyros is this huge heavy gallop.. But, my watch records distances and times.. And we were galloping 49km per hour!! That is pretty good!

Hiya Taw! You must be a new member.. Gosh i have missed out on lots! :p

Thank you!

I am so proud of both the boys, Kyros for basically turning into a trusting, calm, brave horse..

You know i think his last owner had such problems with him because she was scared and didn't trust him... And he could tell that.. She was nervous, so he was nervous.. She kept holding him back and worrying with his jumping, so he just pulled on the bit even more!

Kyros and i had a rough start, put me in hospital, but i have 100% trust with him, and he knows that! We are actually a bonded team.. Instead of just someone who hops on their horse and tells them what to do!

and Klaatu for growing up and being so clever and smart.. You know he never once bucks or puts a foot wrong

Would you believe this was Klaatu as a baby.. He grew up into a handsome boy! :D

I love this photo from lunging him the other day-

He looks kinda warmbloodish in some photos.. A few people say a clydesdale cross thoroughbred is similar to a warmblood.. Klaatu has the exact same thickness of his legs as Kyros, but much hairier, and has a wider face.. Klaatu's head is too big for Kyros's halter! hahaha

Tab, you ought to post the picture of Klaatu kicking up his feet when you were lunging him. ;)

I LOVE that you posted here....gosh, I miss you so much. :(

I am now patting my strands of Klaatu and Kitai hair. :D

Tabitha Brown! Do not joke about the size of Klaatu's head! I will tell you a very short (bwahahahaha!) story to illustrate what I mean.

When my DD, Ellie, was born, they thought she had a terminal illness. Long story short, but she was tested and scanned for everything in the medical encyclopaedia, but they never did figure out what the matter was. One day, the doctor called us in for a special meeting. We were so scared, thinking it was going to be bad news, especially when he reached to pick up a box of tissues to bring into his office with us!

'Well', said the doctor, 'the only thing we've been able to establish from the CT scans is that she has an incredibly big head...'

My husband and I both lurched forward and said in perfect unison: 'What does that mean, doctor?'

The foul man leaned back in his chair and drew a deep breath. We died! Then he calmly said 'Has neither of you looked in a mirror lately?'

He measured all our heads and noted that Ellie's head circumference was right at the top of the graph for her age (three days). Mine was also right at the top of the graph. My husband's was off in space somewhere: his head measurement would have been about four inches above the top of the page! The doctor explained to us that Ellie has a big head because we have big heads. Then, he told me a thing which has comforted me in the dark moments of the night when I felt alone and small and insignificant.

People with large heads have larger brains and are therefore more intelligent.

Did you catch that? 'More intelligent'? So next time you want to have a shot at poor little Klaatu, you just remember he's got a much bigger brain in that cute head of his. Just buy him a bigger halter and be grateful, missy! :D :D :D

PS. Chippy is another accident prone little ratbag. When she got him, my sister was planning to turn him out during the days and keep him in his stable overnight. From the very first, Chip has cut himself on wire and tree limbs and fenceposts. He's trodden on a nail and on pebbles that got wedged into his shoes and gave him stone bruises. He got colic and rolled and they nearly didn't get him up off the ground in time! And now this rotten injury that won't heal. Francie (my sister) has spent megabux on special boots and shoes and acres of Elastoplast, but Chippy has managed to rip off every single dressing after just a few hours. She's given up now. Chip lives in his stable permanently and only comes out for lunging and a bit of a kick for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Even then, she's afraid he might inhale a killer bee or something! Some horses are just accident prone, aren't they? :22_yikes:

PS. Forgot to add: I don't think he looks warmbloodish. It's only because he has good bone in his leggies. Look at his head: he hasn't got that lumpish, roman-nosed thing the warmbloods have - he's pretty! I think he's much nicer-looking than a warmblood. So often, the warmbloods look sort of gormless - you know? Probably because of overbreeding or something. Klaatu looks like exactly what he is: an Anglo/Clydie. Don't worry about the feathers: you can shave those off just before shows. :D :D :D

Oh you mean these ones Wendy ;) He was feeling good

You have no idea how grateful i am that he has never done that under saddle hahahaha ;)

Oh Trish! hahahaha :) That is strange! I have seen yours and Ellie's photos, your heads don't look big at all!

My brother (sam) had a very large head when he was born too, i believe he was tested for something?

Can't argue with that though! I wish i had a large brain when it comes to chemistry -_- haha

It's ok, i love Klaatu's head ;)

It is strange how some horses can go their whole lives without a problem, and others just have a problem every month! We have 11 horses, never cost a single penny going to a vet.. Yet Kitai is the only one who has so many problems!

We tried to keep Kitai in a stable, he lasted 2 weeks of pacing, destroying the rails, before he started eating and stripping away the stable boards :/
