When he was little, with siblings. My boy is on the far right with yellow ribbon :). Their little “worried” faces crack me up!

These (two pics below) were taken last week I think. Because of import laws and all vaccines done, he will be 4 months old when shipped on April 10th. Ears are not cropped, they naturally go up, but they tape some pups for shape and support.

He was 12kg (around 26lbs) several days ago. Standard for adult males is 50-60lbs. Females considerably smaller.

Thai Ridgeback Dogs (TRD) are recognized by the kennel clubs UKC, FCI, and American Rare Breed Association. At this time, they are only recognized by the AKC for foundation stock service Foundation Stock Service ? American Kennel Club

EDIT: trying pics again here

Congrats on your new addition Julie! I don't think I've ever seen a dog that looked like that before. Also, so glad to see you back on the forums again:)

Thanks everyone! I can’t wait to smoosh that cute face with kisses!

April, glad to be back too :). I think I need to sign up for a dog forum, but I just don’t have the time to sit on the internet much these days! Especially now... with my new hobby soon (dog training and socialization)!

I think they're very smart-looking... philosophical, deep.

I’ve joined a few dog groups... I guess I’m just spoiled by the community here; I don’t enjoy being judged, and it seems like in a lot of forums you literally cannot escape that no matter what you do. I used to work with a service dog trainer and I learned a lot from her. I do a lot of reading, and if I have questions about my dog I go to my friends. I have a lot of regrets with how we raised my dog, but like happens with so many parrot groups, I joined and then got chased away to stumble around on my own.

That’s unfortunate. I know from lurking on dog forums, that they generally aren’t as nice as bird people.

I know you’ve been diligent about training Ranger. I hope to be like that with my pup. I’m waiting to hear from a potential trainer to work with. They said she’ll be back in town on Friday. I’m also constantly reading and open to learning, and seeing what’s new.

One good thing that’s “new” for me is the incredible selection of premium dog foods on the market now, and the shift to grain free and meat protein based, with a focus on high quality and organic. Very expensive, but I’m sure it’s great. I haven’t decided what brand food to feed yet. So many to choose from that it’s confusing! He is currently on a European brand that I can’t get here.

I was to get Ranger switched to Raw but my husband is totally against it. One of my best friends has a work class Dock Diving Belgian Malinoise as well as a Brittany Spaniel and they both eat raw. She says it costs them about the same as decent dry food and they saw major health shifts when they cut the processed food.

Yeah, raw or homemade food is a huge thing now.
I saw that several of the better brands (privately owned companies) have the option of freeze dried raw. Or at least as a mixer? How about looking into that? There’s prepackaged fresh raw too. It would be really expensive to feed that exclusively. Personally, I’d also be concerned about spreading bacteria (to humans) with fresh raw meat.

I’ve been reading dogfoodadvisor.com and there are just too many choices available. Then I read forums, and regarding the various brands, there are some dogs who do great on it and some dogs who they say all the meat based protein is too rich and causes upset. It just leaves me with a huge ??? as to what to buy.

And of course what is best for the dog is also hugely dependent on the activity level and climate of the dog! So many variables!

New pics from breeder! :) Will be 4 months old on 4/13. My boy is the lighter blue one with a few of his 7 siblings. Or gray, which for some reason they call that color blue in dogs and cats.

Too many toys!! All kinds and textures. I like the ‘foraging’ dog toys that you fill with food or treats. Same concept as bird foraging toys. The large round donkey and the little red bull by it have firm balls in them and they roll around. I thought they were funny, couldn’t resist.

Besides what’s in the pics, I have a large wire crate, bed, blankets, collar, leashes, car seat cover, and found a trainer... I think I’m set! For now...
