Tarantulas

Sharing some of the creepier things around here! I am naming them with a Harry Potter theme...the challenge to name them all without running out of options. I name them before knowing what they are so they are stuck with whatever name it is since I'm too lazy to switch them around to fit when they are sexed.



Harpactira pulchripes - Blaise, possible female & about ready for a rehouse




Poecilotheria metallica - Helena - eventually we will be blue




Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens - Lovegood - she/he has been sexed as both male and female so far. So your guess is as good as mine lol



Scopelobates sericeus - Yaxley, Mature Male & so far haven't found someone that needs a male for their girl.



Psalmopoeus cambridgei - Remus - Female - almost ready to be rehoused again but I'm not sure on what I want to go with for her adult enclosure yet.



Nhandu chromatus - Ron, Female & freshly molted here



Phormictopus sp. Dominican Purple - Artemisia aka Jerkface - unknown



Brachypelma auratum - Fawkes - Unknown

Wow! I know nothing of tarantulas but see many hobbyists selling them. There's so many variations!

They still freak me out just a little bit though! I will admire from afar!

Cyriocosmus elegans - Sprout - Unknown but Im guessing female with how big it is now.



Hapalopus sp. Colombia, Large - Potter - Mature Male



Dolichothele diamantinensis - Padma - Unknown & molting photo






Pterinochilus sp. Arusha - Dolohov - Unknown



Pseudhapalopus sp. Blue - Rowena - Unknown & freshly molted here. About ready for a rehouse even though these guys tend to go down more than anything.



Heteropoda davidbowie - Charlie - Unknown - Real Live Teleporter...so fast haha




Orphnaecus philippinus - Seamus - Unknown - Eventually we will be a bright orange

I used to freak out too! I kind of love them a bit now. Its honestly weird going from being terrified of them to liking them so much!

I'm freaked out, curious, and respectful at the same time! Good thing I watched the "hunting" video in the morning, hope it clears from my brain by bedtime!!

There is something so frightful about spiders and snakes for most people. That you are able to push beyond that and love them is nothing short of amazing!

My friend Christina converted me. She was like I needed someone to watch everything on vacations so I had to work on you for the arachnids lol. She has snakes, rats, and birds along with a bunch of tarantulas that she breeds. She watches all my guys when I'm gone so it works out!


My mother is still quite freaked by the tarantulas and I had her 'helping' one day for rehousing a few....it went something like this once I opened the container and it ran :18:

A couple of years ago, I had a client who wanted a portrait of his pet tarantula. I forget what kind he was... I posted the finished product here, much to the mortification of some! Fortunately for me (I am a bit of a spider-phobe, yes), the portrait was from a video, not an in-person pose. Anyway, I actually gained some sympathy for the little guy. He had a way of backing up when surprised, and raising his little front legs in a way that was, seriously, kind of cute. Yeah, I said that. By the way, his name was Parker. Peter. Peter Parker.

Did the pose look something like this? It's their threat pose. Legs up, fangs out haha




(picture from jamietarantulas) I haven't got a good threat pose for a pic. Only had 2 so far but I have a bunch of the different 'baboon' species with lots of attitude so should have one at some point

Yaxley is so pretty! It looks like he has a jewel on his back. (Back??)

I think you mean the carapace where you can see the eyes. The abdomen is the round squishy part in the second half. He does have a jewel like shine! It is even more obvious now that he is done hardening up. He had just molted in the photo.

Yes! Carapace. And how about a new picture now that he looks even better?

That's exactly what ol' Peter was doing!

I was a little hesitant to intrude on your thread, but since you're interested, I found Peter's portrait. I didn't use the 'legs up' pose... I sorta sensed that it was stress-ish, so opted for a more relaxed look. And I tried to give his eyes a friendly, soulful look.

This spider was around 10 years old, as I recall, had been through college and a first job with his roomie, or something similar. Not sure what became of him. That was a couple of years back...

didn't know there are so many varieties..kinda cool...from a distance.

Sorry Riddick, I just cant appreciate them. WHen I was a kid, a house spiders egg case hatched out hundreds of teeny little spiderlings... right over my bed. I woke up with them all dropping down onto my face. Still freaks me out.
