Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
....David's gert (cat) Missy had to be put to sleep yesterday :(. She was sixteen years young and in recent months started to go down hill. She started to up-chuck a lot. David took her to her doc a few times for a physical and blood work and was told she had thyroid and kidney issues and was given a perscription. She started to improve a little..didn't ralph as much, but in the last few days took a turn for the worse :( She went from ten pounds in June to just over five at yesterday's vet visit. He left Missy there for more tests. The doc called a few hours later and told him there really wasn't anything he could do for her,she is old and her organs are just failing. David asked what the doc would do if she was his kitty, and the doc told him "the only humane thing to do".

I had rescued Missy sixteen years ago from where I worked at the time as a trucker. The business was at the top of Bethany Mountain. It was a farm at one time and Bill and Bobby turned it into a trucking business. While I was there (for fifteen years) they celebrated their fifty years in business.
Cat's and other critters ran amok there. Just at the other end of the property was Bethany Resevior and deer and coyotes and an occasional black bear  would wander in to the yard. Hawks and hooty owls were normal to see, with raccoons and possums and the like.
Feral gerts were rampant...forty or more! If you caught a young one he/she would be friendly. We had a mechanic who lived on-sight in a loft in the work shop. Gary was on call to do any repairs to trucks or trailers as drivers came and went at all times of the day or night. "Fred" befriended Gary (an all black kitty) and lived with him. Fred was very friendly and would often visit the guys in the warehouse. Fred was later called "Fredrika" as she came home knocked up by one of the many feral doods walking around looking for a one night stand
So Fred had her first litter and two of the survivors were "George" and Missy (then un-named) David had always had two kitties and Jenny Kitty had recently passed leaving just Rusty. I had gotten Jenny for him through a girl I was seeing at the time.
Missy was MAYBE a month old.All black with long fir. Her tail was bigger and fluffier then her body lol.
So I called David to see if he was interested in a new kitty and he said SURE.
Missy loved her daddy very much. Slept with him.Woke him in the morning if he didn't hear the alarm. Sat on the coffee table waiting for him to come home from work. Talked to him in the morning as he checked email..well...you get the picture ;) She would even talk to BB from time to time..always an in-door kitty.

Here is a picture of Missy in happier/healthier times.

I'm so sorry. So hard to share your life with someone (human or animal) and then go through losing them. The fact that Missy made it so long (to the point that old-age was the cause of her decline) is testament to your care.
Doesn't make it any easier, I know...

I'm so sorry, Jim. What a wonderful life you and David gave Missy, thank goodness you brought her home to him so many years ago.
Sending hugs to you and David.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Very sorry to hear this Jim, my deepest condolences to you and David. Seems Missy had "two fathers" who took great care of her.

My first pet "love" prior to birds were cats. Really something special about their personalities and longevity.

Oh what a life well lived! Thank you for the life story. Thank you for all you all did for her. May the hurt not sting so much that the good memories are hidden.

B&G Macaw, Galah, 5 cockatiels, 50 billion and a half budgies. We breed and do rescue. Too many to list each individual's name and age etc, but they are each individuals and loved dearly.
Oh no. :( I'm sorry for your loss. A good long life, treasure the memories. Age gets us all if we are lucky enough. *hug*

We had to put down a beagle only a couple years ago. Our first family dog, Max, died of cancer in 2001 and we went dogless for a year or two before I found Lily... a kid at my school named Max had found a beagle who needed a home. She lived for at least 16 years and was a wonderful dog. Was a companion to my dad, she gave us funny/sad/mad memories when she ate an entire tray of condolences brownies just after my dad passed away and had excorcist style chocolate puke all over the couch... she gnawed thru tin cans to get to the dog food within.... many good memories of Lily Girl. It hurts so so bad when they are first gone, but in time it gets easier to just remember the good times.

Here is a photo I found recently... we were visiting my aunt and Lily stole a big bag of pretzels that my aunt's boyfriend had been snacking on the whole visit. Lily snuck them into her travel crate to snack in privacy. :p But it was such a huge bag that they couldn't both fit in the crate!

She had arresting eyes! That was a tale well told, and thank you for sharing. I am happy to know that y'all gave Missy a good life. I am not a "cat person", but do care for all animals - leaving the house for dinner this Tuesday just passed, my wife saw a cat that was, we thought, "lounging" on the grass in our yard, and I made to scoot it away (since they frequently use the place as a litter box). It didn't move, and was moaning pitifully - because it was very close to expiring, after a "long" life of being a mostly outdoor cat my elderly neighbor would occasionally feed. It was a calico. We put it into a carrier he lent us, and raced off to the very fortunately located 24-hour Emergency Animal Hospital just a few blocks from home. Unfortunately the vet could do nothing, and it saddened us greatly to have our only option be to put it down :( My neighbor is quite sad about it as well, as I'd be if I'd looked after it in the way he did for all those years.

Beautiful baby. This makes me so sad, but it's because I've been through it and it sucks. Just teared up because it reminded me of our last dog (who was my baby). Hang in there..it's so hard to lose them.
