Please don't complain about our parrots and the house rules because of them

(1) They live here, you don't

(2) If you don't want down feathers on your clothes, stay away

(3) Chances are, I love my parrots more then I like you

(4) To you, they are a bird. To me they are family who are feathered, fly and talk back.

5. Chances are good you may be pooped on, or sit your hand where poop happens to be, that's just life with a bird.

6. Please don't repeat "Polly want a cracker." to them. Their names aren't Polly, and crackers aren't good for them.

7. Don't poke at them, or I may poke at you.

Polly wanna cracker is terribly annoying! I would be furious if someone taught my bird to say that.

I don't like it when people who know nothing about parrots try to educate me about them. "You know, they're only mimicking what you say, they don't know what it means, they're not like chimps who can use tools." Thanks, but I think I understand the level of a parrot's intellect a bit better than someone who has never actually met a parrot before.

Usually, though, my guests are fine and will ask if they can pick her up, touch her, go near her, feed her something, etc. What was annoying was when I had this ex-boyfriend-turned-friend whom my parrot hated who used to come to get togethers I had and act in front of my friends like he knew everything about my bird. Just got very possessive, even though my bird hates him! And he'd totally make himself at home with her, taking her out of her cage when she was still getting used to there being people around, giving her a million nuts even though I try to keep her fat content down, etc. Probably more of an ex-boyfriend issue than a general guest issue though, haha. A different ex-boyfriend used to complain that I displayed favoritism towards my bird over him because I served her food all the time and didn't do so for him. Silly. He'd get angry with me when I gave her too much attention. I guess living alone with a parrot is kind of like being a single mom.

I only have people I truly trust and favor over now. Usally people who all have birds as well. Thank god my gf has 2 times the amount of birds I do and know and understands parrot attention and nutrition. How important it is.
I honestly don't deal with non parrot people to much rather than my parents or relatives friends. Some of my friends from childhood thought birds were cool. (the friends till present day do) so most went and got birds to and care for either a grey zon or macaw.
We all attend the same club and all volunteer at the rescue. They just refuse to join a forum. They rely on information from forums and the club or me lol. But won't acually join one. Stubborn. Great thread!! :)

-no parrots yet-
I do have two cats -Riply & Nano bites-
four snakes- china, dip & stick, and Grand Chahee-
my friends and family know they better expect to see a "zoo" when they visit me. my snakes are out in a homemade shelf with the rats sitting on top of them all. my gerbils are under the window with a huge tank of sand as home now, they have sun and warmpth just like where they come from. its a sweet setup, and soon, I will tell everyone about my birds conditions too - feathers, poo, noise, ect.

I'd be interested in play dates from more of a selfish perspective... my bird can sit and sulk in her cage while I play with the other birdies!

My family doesn't even visit anymore. They'll talk to me on the phone or stand on the front porch. Its kind of ridiculous in my opinion. Pi is quickly becoming fully flighted and every time she takes off someone has to SCREAM like a little school girl. You'd think I was housing a raptor or something. haha

My mother in law actually swatted Merlin from the air!:mad::mad::mad: I swear, like I need another reason to be mad at her. Now he has to be caged when she visits, what really makes it difficult, she never calls before she comes & walks straight in to the house. Once she is there, he is excited so I have trouble getting him into the cage. This could be so much simplier, call b4 you come & I'll have him put up.

I would love it if she would catch my husband & I in a very compromising position, I bet she would start knocking then.:p It would be worth the embarrassment. This might sound extreme, but after 23 years of marriage, you know that I have asked numerous times that she knock b4 entering my house, just doesnt seem to apply to her.
