I'm in VA, it really wasn't as bad as media is making it out to be. Yes we had tragic deaths but in all honesty as far as weather goes, it was not as bad as we've been through before :)

Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. I'm in CT and about 20 miles inland. I'm just glad I'm not directly on the coast. Right now we are getting wind and rain from the upper bands of the storm but it's not too bad. It's supposed to be the worst in about 9 hours. I also send my best wishes to everyone else out there.

They were getting everyone all hyped up and upset. Yes, people do need to be careful and prepared, but it is definitely not that bad of a storm. Florida is probably laughing at us right now. And California was probably laughing at us earlier in the week when we had that earthquake. The media was making it seem like such a big deal here. Being in VA, how bad was the earthquake? I didn't feel it, but I know others in my area that did.

On the news here the reporter said that California was probably laughing at us getting all excited about the earthquake. (but hey! I never felt my house shake before! lol) But then the reporter said Give California 2 feet of snow overnight, and hear them complain! lol

I was in NC at school for the quake and stuff fell off of shelves but it wasn't terrible. The Hurricane caused a LOT of flooding but that was expected. My folks live 5 minutes (walking) from the beach so we're in a low-lying area. It's hard to believe that Isabel in 03 caused SO much damage and was a slightly smaller storm. Lucy liked chasing the rain drops on the windowsill and cuddling with the dog, though he wasn't too enthused lol

Both the quake and the Irene mess were very bad here. I hope I never feel the earth moving and shaking again. Hurricanes are not too bad if we could just find a way to keep the power on. Thanks for asking in Australia.

Glad that those that responded are OK physically. Over here it was doom and gloom with Irene and the next thing it became a tropical storm. Hope the clean up goes well, I know it is going to take a long long time for those worst affected, just letting you know that I am thinking about you.
What is going on in the world lately Aust - floods, bushfines, cyclones. NZ (my husband from Christchurch) - earthquakes. Japan - earthquakes, tsunami, US - hurricanes.
It is getting to where I do not want to watch the news or read the papers. Thats why I like the forum, you tend to get a few laughs - daily. We need laughs and lots of them, so keep the funny stories coming, I love hearing about the birdy antics

Its hurricane time of year over here, so Irene isn't anything new or odd. What's odd about it, is that it maintained power, and how far it moved. By the time it usually gets to the northeast, if it does at all, its usually a fairly weak tropical storm. I gotta say though, where I live- we would have been screwed had it hit when it was supposed to, and if we got hit with the storm wall like we were supposed to. It would've been very bad...
