Somebody outside my window?

I was cooking naked in the kitchen around 12am tonight. All of a sudden I hear a WOLF WHISTLE that sounded like it came from outside my kitchen window. I have blinds, but it's possible somebody could have seen through a crack in them or something, I guess. It didn't sound like Puck's wolf whistle, so I instantly flipped out! A few seconds later I heard a car start and drive off. I ran into the other room, and called the police. I'm a female living alone on a bottom floor apartment, which opens into an alley, in a less-than-pristine neighborhood, so I figure it's better safe than sorry. They came out and checked out my alley and talked to me for a couple minutes.

I can't help but feel a little silly though... It's possible it could have been Puck, but it really didn't sound like his normal wolf whistle; this was a lot lower, and was unfamiliar-sounding to me, hence the freakout.

I'm already moving back in with my mom within the month to save money. I've always wondered about these blinds. She lives in a better neighborhood too, which will be nice. I've been on my own for 5 years, so it's weird moving back in, but if it doesn't work out well, I figure I can always move back out.

Oh man. I am JUST starting to calm down! I was trembling and everything! I like to think that I am relatively prepared for these situations, but my mind isn't!

Re: Somebody outside my window?

a lot of blinds are see through especially if you have a light on inside... maybe you need to get a friend to stand outside and check for you

Yeah... I think you're right. I'm moving in about 3 weeks anyway.

Re: Somebody outside my window?

Yeah but if someone saw something , they'll be back. Own a 12 ga. shotgun ? I'd be careful about my windows and doors. Rake your flower bed under your windows and check for tracks.

Re: Somebody outside my window?

That's a scary, but possible point of view. I think it was someone in my complex, because of where it came from. I think I will remain dressed at home until I move...

The way my apartment is set up, there are walkways in front of both my doors, and people always walk by.

I do have protection. Slept with it last night...

Re: Somebody outside my window?

We keep metal baseball bat at the entry way, crow bar by the bedroom, dogs are in the back entry way, so yea we're pretty covered...lol....Plus I've got free sound alarm system if someone comes in. My birds don't take too kindly to strangers coming inside the house very well....lol

Re: Somebody outside my window?

I lived in a questionable area a few months ago and i had a similar experience (sans the nakedness sadly) where someone was trying to get into my bedroom window at about 3 am. I was awake composing with the lights on. I scared them off by throwing my piano at the window but it freaked me out to move out of there within a month.

Kinda funny though i heard from some people that sun conures can act like alarm systems and sometimes mine does... in the morning... when i am trying to sleep lol. But that night she was quiet a a mouse haha

Its good your getting out of there. And always keep your cell at hand just in case.

Re: Somebody outside my window?

With my male ekkie, JoJo always scream at strangers!!! He lets me know if someone came in on their own, which that has happened before when my friend just walked in and JoJo sound the alarm. Same with Willie my macaw, he does the samething.

Re: Somebody outside my window?

MikeyTN - Sounds like you're quite covered! I kind of doubt that Puck would scream at an intruder, but he might if it startled him. He might know the difference, but I'm not confident about that. My place is so small that I would know if anybody was trying to get in though.

rochesteralexk - That's scary!! I live on the bottom floor of my building, with no residences near enough on the sides to hear me scream... and my door opens to the alley... and I don't have bars on my windows! To balance it out, the place is well priced, outside is well lit, well maintained, super cute, and in a neighborhood that I really like (even though there is a little shadiness).

I'm moving back in with my mom, who has 2 dogs, which make good alarms, haha.

Really, my own personal security is pretty decent. I hope I don't just freeze up if anything does happen though.

I was having a lot of reservations about moving, because I REALLY like living alone, but this event kind of makes me feel better about it. Next time I move out it will be better planned, less desperate, and hopefully into a better location.

I've heard that geese make great guard animals. I bet a macaw would too! I am going to be the crazy bird lady when I grow up. I will have an eclectic flock of attack birds and dogs to deal with intruders.

Re: Somebody outside my window?

When I used to live out in the country side I had 3 geese that will harass intruders!!! They're very mean! Even though I raised them from goslings inside the house, BUT they do come to us for help if they're hurt. I used to chase after them to get them into their house at night, that's probably why they hate me for it, but we had to since we have coyotes around....
