Looks like a pipe burst in the basement last night. The basement is horribly flooded. The water was nearly up to my waist and so awful cold when I had to plow through it to turn off the main. It's 5F outside right now. I don't know why it broke though. I admit I was running the wood stove most of yesterday but that thing has run during much colder temps than this without the basement getting too cold. 3 years ago we had a 3 day power outage and the temps were well below zero and I had no problems.

Must spend the day pumping out the basement then find the pipe and repair it. I'm going to have to get water from neighbors for the horses at least today.

I hope things get better for you soon!

Our hot water tank broke the other day, not sure when it happened. Sunday afternoon was when we realized it, Lance says "hey, there's no hot water". We go down to the basement, and there's water on the basement floor, and out under the door and across the driveway. (which of course made a nice frozen trail of ice in the driveway) We were headed to work so he just turned it off and Monday his dad helped him install a new one.

You're in my thoughts for things to start looking up! :)

EEEKS!! Certainly the last thing you need.

We are at over 2 feet of snow here and it's supposed to warm up and rain in the next few hours, creating tons of challenges in our neck of the woods I'm sure. Flooding, downed trees, broken trees/limbs, downed powerlines, majorly slick roads....

The nice thing to all this weather has been that I have been home, wednesday, thursday and found out this morning that I get to stay home today! Yeaa!! (I'm a school bus driver)

So I've had a chance to capture some video of our Chicken Little chatting away that I'm currently trying to upload to youtube and share with you all here.

Good luck with your basement and pipe, stay warm!

Toni

Well, I rented a big submersible pump with a hose like what's on firetrucks. It seems to be working pretty well. One step is already cleared. I had to set it on one of the steps as I couldn't even find the basement floor. However I had to run that hose out the back door so the door is open. Thankfully it's not windy, but this is our coldest temp yet this season. Of course this couldn't happen on Monday when it will be in the upper 30s again.

I just hope the hot water heater is ok. I don't need that expense now on top of it all.

And Pete did not eat all his medicated toast this morning. And when I tried to hand feed it to him, which has worked so far, he bit the crap out of me. He'd better eat it soon. I don't want to have to towel him. He's mad enough at me already for taking him to the vet Tuesday. I thought we had made up, but I guess not. He's never bitten me before.

Do you know how much it sucks not having a working toilet? Lol! And to make it worse I was sick this morning with my digestive disease.

Well, the basement is pumped out now! That pump I rented was totally awesome! I even got it back to the rental place just in time to only pay for half a day rental and just beat the snow getting home, too!

I'm taking a bit of a break at the moment but then I need to see where the leak is. I'm sure hoping it isn't because the hot water heater let go. That will be bad. If it's just pipe though I can fix that in a matter of minutes. I already got more water for the horses for tonight from the neighbor's, just in case.

The birds are definitely feeling better though. Merlin is doing her imitations, Rowdy is cheering her along and Pete is doing his batman poses. I'm going to get their meds in them now and their veggies. Then check out the basement once I know they've eaten. Merlin has already got her meds since she eats them on Nutriberries and I gave them to her a couple hours ago since she takes forever to eat. She savors every little bite. But, I need to make Petey his peanut butter toast now. He did finally eat it while I was eating lunch. He likes to eat with me (his flock).

I do have a good sense of humor, thankfully! I am actually laughing right now over all this:)

It's hard not to flip out when like 5 things all go wrong at once! Especially when you are single and all the burden is on you. But, my ex husband and all the guys I've dated never wanted to help me for even half an hour with anything either! So I have learned I guess over the years to do everything for myself. If you live where I do, good luck on getting a plumber out here. They won't drive even 10 minutes out of a city to come here!

My worklight was in the basement when the flood happened and it's no longer working. And of course the leak is in the one dark little nook where I can't see what I'm doing. I need to go buy another or borrow one from the neighbors today. If it comes down to it, I could probably use one of the bird's clip on full spectrum lights, lol!
