I got his email the day before ship day....i am so heartbroken...i have been bawling my eyes out since i got the email...

I've got bad news. We were doing some basic training outside with your bird this morning (as we do every morning). I must not have clipped his wings down far enough because he was able to get a lot of lift and he took off. I don't like to trim babies wings down too far until they are 6 months old because wings help with motor skill development. I've never had a baby this young take off on me.

You've got a couple options. I can simply refund your payment. Otherwise I do have more babies. They're about 3 weeks old now so they'd be weaned around the end of June or early July. I know how excited you are so I'm really sorry to have to break this news to you. Just let me know how you'd like to proceed.

what now? i made his food! golden feast is in the freezer....the cage is ready....

Oh my goodness, I can't believe it. What do you think you're going to do? Poor baby, are they not going to try and get him back? :(

Maybe ask her about refunding the money and if she gets him back, you'll pay her again? After she's sortted out all the vet checks etc to make sure he's okay after his ordeal?

I'm so so sorry, I know how excited you were about this and I know how bonded you were to him :(

Thinking of you, take your time with the decision xx

So sorry Sadie, I find that very hard to believe because in my experience & i will fess up i have had a few fly off & i have got them back in a couple of hours. They stay very close to home. All i have to do is go outside with the cup of formula & spoon. The longest i have misplace one is for 7 hours & he stayed very close to home i just couldn't reach him until hubby got home.

I am sure they will get him back just give it a day or two. If not he may not have been the baby for you. Things happen for a reason.

I agree with Pedro , things happen for a reason. They may till get him back though , so don't give up hope :).
You have a lot to think about , give yourself a little time before you make a final decision.
Hugs to you during this difficult time.

so i called another breeder who has one available now. i explained to her what happened and i finished in tears. She said he is weaned and one of the most loving birds she has raised. And he even flies to her 3yr old! My daughter would love that. Maybe it was meant to be....
She is letting me put a deposit on him until my refund comes through. But im sure i will pay her before that just so i can finally have my bird.

i am hope im not rushing things. but if they do find poor rocky do i really want a bird who would rather fly away than get attention....i dont know im still so at a loss over all of this..

Sadie , one thing , why on earth would you feel stupid about being excited ?
DON'T ! Anybody getting ready to welcome a new arrival into their home would be as excited as you were ! So don't do that to yourself. We all feel the pain when somebody else here goes through a hardship , so vent , cry , do what ever makes you feel better.
We are here for you :). Give yourself time , you are still in shock no doubt.

It's a sign that it's meant to be, the first one flew away from you which means he wasn't the one, but now you found one that flies to you, he's the one that you were meant to have.

Im so sorry to hear that.....when babies are young, they're pumped to fly! Its a natural instinct for birds wanting to take off especially during a gust of wind blowing over!!! Things happen, I've had one baby flew off when I didn't clip very good once. But I got him back as my birds are perch trained so he stepped up to a stick held infront of him and I slowly lowered him down and got him back in the house for a re-clip.

i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
I was going to write an entirely different post to you until I read that there was another baby ready to come home to you! This one will even fly to people, it sounds like this really is meant to be! When I first put a deposit down for Dorothy, it was actually her nest mate that I had my eye on. The dna hadn't come back yet but the other baby was huge and gorgeous. I was told that I was the first to put any deposits down on either bird so I had first choice. There was an honest mistake made where someone had already put down money earlier on the one I wanted. I was so disappointed! Well I had a choice to wait longer for one of the younger ones still in the nest or take the smaller baby (turned out to be a girl, the other was a boy) Did I mention I had a boy name already chosen? Well, I didn't want to wait and the female was just so sweet. I ended up with that female, named her Dorothy and let me tell you she is THE sweetest bird I have ever met! She is just a love bug and turned out to be absolutley beautiful! I guess what I'm saying is that I was meant to have Dorothy and I wouldn't change what happened for the world. Sometimes we just have to trust in how things happen. Good luck with whatever you choose. It sounds like you are going to make a great parront!

I just read your post about finding the new baby. I missed that when I wrote my last response. It sounds like this new baby is meant to be! Things always seem to work out the way they are supposed to be. Good luck! I agree that you will make a great parront!
