I honestly can't stand living 'at home' anymore. My brother and sister both have disabilities. My sister has autism, which has always been rather mild until the past year and a half or so when she seems to be worse. My brother has EMI. I'm not trying to be mean but I am losing my mind! And there is nowhere for me to go because I have no job (nobody will hire a nurse without experience apparently), no care, no money... And even if I get a job, buy a care, and save up, it will be YEARS before I can leave because I have animals that I would have to take with me. Yes, I could leave them with my mom. She would care for them. But they are MINE. I'm just so fed up with the situation.

i know exactly how you feel. i haven't been exactly fond of my family for my entire life
and can't leave yet. sucks no one would hire you though. i mean c'mon, "no experience?"
how the hell would an employer expect you to get experience if he doesn't hire you?

Exactly! I am more than capable of doing anything that LPN's (the type of nurse I am) do. If there is something I have never done, all I ask is that somebody show me once or twice and I am fine.

I guess thats what birds are for, to help us through the tough times. Could you take your birds with you? Things will turn around someday, maybe the birds can help, your sister could bond with them and maybe it might help her, hang in there!

Hang in there! No experience=no job has always been the case. Keep trying, someone will give you a chance. As for your family...we do not choose our family. If you want to be a good, caring nurse someday, look at what you have to learn with. These people seem to be lessons waiting for you to realize. Think of an old saying..."That which does not kill us, will make us stronger." You are at a difficult time in your life, and you WILL triumph and survive. Keep reminding yourself of that.

I know that things can be hard, Michigan is such a depressed area, could you maybe volunteer or try working for a retirement home, it might be below your pay grade, but might get your foot in the door. Good luck and remember to take deep breaths.

Can I suggest a nurse staffing agency? They fill in for nurses (LPN's, RN's & often CNA's) at nursing homes and hospitals. Didn't the school you went through have some sort of hiring assistance? Most of the schools I know of do something like that, but I have no experiences with anything in MI.

Could you take on a different job, in the mean time? Just till you can get a foot in the door for nursing? Waitress, cashier, apply at a vet's office! Oh my gosh! It seems like there could be so many avenues you could take rather than just be frustrated and giving up, don't ever give up...

The problem with taking another job outside of the medical field is that it won't improve my resume. I also have no experience doing anything so anyone with work exp would be hired over me at any job. A job paying minimum wage isn't ideal anyway because as stated, I have no car. This means my mom would have to take me to work, come home, pick me up, and come home... Most of my check would go to gas.

You could get a CNA job in the mean time and then have a shoe in when a nursing position opens without working for minimum wage. That is what most people I went to nursing school with did. Many of us took the undesirable long term care jobs at first, but eventually you get to move on to a better job. CNA experience is applicable to LPN jobs because of patient contact especially if you plan to work in the same environment. Familiarity is a premium for places as your orientation time will be less! As far as gas, you might try arranging a car pool or finding a job along a bus route to offset cost initially. I used to work 16 hours doubles because my first CNA job in nursing school was quite a ways away, so I didn't want to drive it as much. That worked well as a gas saving trick that added easy overtime! The agency jobs for nursing ALL paid for my gas if it was for work, so that was helpful. Got to fledge someday - even though most fledglings do fall flat on their beaks a few times before they get it right
