Today, my horse Sage choked, this is a process where food becomes lodged in the throat of a horse and they cannot get it out. It is not a deadly thing as in humans as they can breath. If it goes untreated it can lead to death because of dehydration and starvation. This is the 3rd vet visit in 3 weeks for the horses, My 3yo had a puncture wound from a stick and was treated and started on antibiotics and cleaned, a week later it abscessed and the vet came out to clean, place a drain and administer more antibiotics. AARRRGG I love my vet, but would really like to see him less.

:( Sometimes when it rains, it pours. So sorry to hear about Sage, hopefully its not a bad choke. Is this her first one? My horse hasn't (Thankfully) had any issues beside randomly cutting his face open when I first got him *knockes on wood.*

Animals sure can test our panic buttons.

13yr. old male umbrella cockatoo,
we call him Amigo!

7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
I had a little Arabian mare that choked once on alfalfa cubes, no fun! Stayed away from those after that. I've heard it said that bad luck comes in 'threes'. Hopefully this will be the last time you see the vet for a while.

Its his first choke, but not mine. He gobbles his food, and we added a new member to the herd a few months ago, he seems much more defensive about his food these days. I will have to change up the feeding routine, but he will be fine. When my 29yo choked, she presented totally non-choke like. She was sooo dramatic, she threw herself on the ground and was screaming in agony. She was tensing up and convulsing as well, I thought she had thrown a clot or something and was not ever gonna stand up again, luckily, even though the choke was severe she made it without any permanent damage, though she does get her feed soaked now. Her teeth are mostly nubs at this point, but she is still a total spitfire. It has been an interesting year with the vet so far, even he is tired of seeing me. :) Next visit will hopefully be routine only.
